DC Drops a Pair of HCAC Matches

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Defiance College Women’s Tennis was swept in a conference tri-match with Transylvania and Anderson on September 29. The Lady Jackets fall to 1-14 overall and 1-7 in the HCAC.

Emily Meyer left Transylvania with a perfect record after winning both singles matches in straight sets, defeating Transylvania’s Katie Boone (6-1, 6-1) and Anderson’s Rachel Makin (6-2, 6-2). Meyer has now won five consecutive matches at No. 1 singles and improves to 9-5 on the season. She also teamed up with fellow Napoleon, Ohio native Amanda Auzins to win both doubles matches. The tandem has now won five of their last six in No. 1 doubles.

Auzins picked up her third win in No. 2 singles action with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Transy’s Sarah Ridley. Sophomore Laurel Smith won her No. 3 singles match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 for her second HCAC win of the season.

The Lady Jackets return to action on Tuesday, October 2, when they travel to Tiffin, Ohio to face the Student Princes of Heidelberg College. The match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
