October 25, 2012

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College Women’s Commission Gallery is hosting an exhibit of works by Justin Johnson. The show runs Nov. 5-30, and an opening reception with the artist will be held from 6 – 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the gallery.  The reception is free and open to the public.

Johnson has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in art from the University of St. Francis, Fort Wayne, Ind., where he has been the gallery director for the School of Creative Arts for more than 10 years. His work is focused on traditional classical, religious, and sacred themes that are depicted in a contemporary way from an iconographic point of view.

Technically, he incorporates a wide variety of media including graphite drawing, acrylic wash, collage, digital imaging, and applying liquid gold onto glass. Johnson’s work has very high technical standards and creates a fascination in its viewers.

The Defiance College Women’s Commission Gallery is located in Dana Hall, next to Schomburg Auditorium.  Gallery hours are 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by appointment.  For more information, contact gallery coordinator Jason Stockman at 419-783-2451 or jstockman@defiance.edu.
