Defiance College receives mini-grant to mobilize students to vote in 2012 election

October 9, 2012

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College recently received a $500 mini-grant from Ohio Campus Compact’s Campus Election Engagement Project to help defray the costs of activities and efforts to mobilize college students to vote in the 2012 election. DC, along with campuses throughout Ohio, is participating in a statewide initiative to encourage students on Ohio campuses to register to vote and to go to the polls this November.

Grant monies received by DC were used to fund the college’s Constitution Day event held in mid-September. The event included voter registration, party and candidate descriptions, and information on key 2012 election issues.

The event also included a political quiz where participants answered several “agree or disagree” questions. At the end of the quiz, each student was informed of which party they most closely agree. This nonpartisan process encouraged students to discover their own political beliefs without pressure from others.

OCC’s Campus Election Engagement Project supports and links campus voter mobilization efforts around the state by providing valuable resources and tools to help student leaders, faculty and staff educate and empower students to vote and actively engage in America’s democracy.
