Writers Group of Defiance County Arts Council sponsors Defiance College Writing Contest Community Outreach Event

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Writers Group of Defiance County Arts Council recently sponsored a writing contest for Defiance College’s Progeny literary and art magazine. Judged by Writers Group members Lynn Gilliland and Patricia Wise, awards were given for the top three creative entries.

Winners for the contest were first place, short story "Between the Lines" by Kelly Dopp, Napoleon, education major and English minor; second place, poem "A Change Is Going to Come" by Javone Hilliard, Carmel, Ind., biology major; third place, short story "Green" and honorable mention "This Is My Refuge" by Kimberle Maro, Tunkhannock, Pa., education major.

The Writers Group supports the literary arts in Defiance County and on the Defiance College campus through their open monthly meetings and special projects, including the Progeny contest.

The winning entries will be published in the spring 2014 issue of Progeny. This biannual print and online publication is edited by Joseph Bales, Defiance, education major and English minor. Past issues may be found at dcprogeny.org.
