Taking a stand for kids in need at ninth annual dance marathon

March 28, 2017

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The spring Buzzathon, hosted by Defiance College’s Dance Marathon, will be held on Saturday, April 1, from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Karl H. Weaner Center. The Buzzathon is a fun-filled night where DC students and other participants stay on their feet to raise money for children with terminal illnesses.

“Buzzathon” is the new name for Dance Marathon’s end of semester event. Dance Marathon raises money throughout the year at events such as bake sales, sporting events, a Christmas Carnival, and at the Buzzathon. All proceeds from the fundraising campaign go to the Children’s Miracle Network.

From now through the day of the event, dance marathon members are selling specially-made pillows. For every pillow purchased for $10, a pillow will be given to a miracle child.

The goal of the Buzzathon is to avoid sitting during the event as tribute to sick children who are unable to take a break from their illnesses. The public is welcome to attend and support participants in the charity event. There is a $10 entrance fee, or families of three or more admitted for $25.  Any additional donations are welcome. The fundraising goal for the event is $3,000.

A variety of entertainment will be provided during the marathon, including DJs, inflatables, and a “morale dance” to keep spirits up during the hours participants are on their feet. Carnival games can be played with spare change as a fun way to raise money for the event. Food and drinks will be provided at the marathon.

Miracle Stories by children and their families across the nation who have been affected by illnesses will be shared during the event. Several Miracle Families will also be present to tell their stories. This will provide the Defiance College community the opportunity to connect with children they are helping.
