Chicago Center for Urban Life and Culture LearnChicago! Program
November 15-17, 2006

We arrived at Hostelling International Chicago, where we where greeted by Joe Taylor, LearnChicago! Program Facilitator, and Althea Conyers Long, Program Facilitator. Joe and Althea assisted in checking us in and introducing us to our time in Chicago. |


| We met with Joe Taylor and Arvis Averette, Chicago Center Social Work Instructor. Arvis discussed his experience working for Woodlawn East Community and Neighbors (WECAN), his current work with ex-offenders, and his overall experience in the social work field. |

| We were giving a tour of the Jane Addams Hull House Museum and spoke with an admissions representative from the University of Illinois at Chicago graduate program in social work. |
| At Mujeres Latinas En Accion we met with Alisa Armador to hear about the work the agency does within the Pilsen community. |


During our visit to CALOR we met up with Martin Gonzalez Rojas. We learned how CALOR works within the community by offering a wide range of services from mental health services, prevention and education around HIV/AIDS, to job placement assistance. |

| Our visit to the Borinquen Restaurant for some Latin American cuisine, especially their famous plantain sandwiches. |


| At the Pan-African Association we met with Jennifer Mitchell, Job Development Specialist, who introduced us to the agency and the community it serves. |


Althea introduced us to Steve Saunders, the Executive Liaison of Featherfist Agency. Steve discussed with us his work with the agency. |
