Application Process
Applying for financial aid is easy! There are just a few steps.
Step 1:
The first step is to apply for a PIN. Both the student and one parent will need to have a PIN. Apply online at PIN. The PIN will serve as a secure electronic signature.
Step 2:
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the next step. Be sure to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1. Defiance College’s priority deadline is March 1. Have a copy of your current tax return and your PIN handy to complete the FAFSA. Apply online at FAFSA.
Step 3:
Students that have not previously borrowed Federal Stafford Loans will need to complete Entrance Loan Counseling. The Counseling session covers your right and responsibilities as a student loan borrower. Loan funds can not be disbursed until this is complete. Complete online at Entrance Loan Counseling.
Step 4:
Also, if you are a first-time student at Defiance College, you will need to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN). Loan funds will not be disbursed until you complete the MPN. The MPN will require your PIN and two references. You will be required to provide a Lender and Lender Code on the MPN. Complete online at Master Promissory Note.
Step 5:
The last step is a step that not all FAFSA applicants will be required to complete. The federal government selects some FAFSA applications for a process called verification. If your FAFSA is selected you will be required to submit a signed copy of your and your parent’s current tax return along with a completed and signed verification worksheet. The worksheet can be printed from:
