Courses | Sample Plan of Study

Are you interested in medicine but do not want to go to medical school? Then Medical Laboratory Science may be right for you. Laboratory Technologists perform such tasks as drawing blood, matching blood types, and performing tests on body fluids as well as running computers that perform these and other tasks. Demand for Laboratory Technologists is growing rapidly providing you, as a graduate of the program, with great career potential.

The Medical Laboratory Science major at Defiance College is unique in that it is a 3+1 baccalaureate program. For the first three years you will take classes at Defiance College including the areas of biology, chemistry and immunology. For your final year, you will receive 12 months of clinical experience at an accredited hospital or laboratory.

Acceptance by hospitals is competitive and cannot be guaranteed. The baccalaureate degree will be awarded upon successful completion of the hospital program, and the student will then be eligible to take the medical technology registry examination.

Medical Laboratory Science Affiliation
Defiance College is pleased to be affiliated in the region with such programs and hospitals as the Parkview Health System Laboratories Medical Technology Program in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Mercy Labs in Toledo, Ohio. This does not guarantee the student’s admission into any program. All students must interview and compete with several students from other colleges and universities.
