Want to work behind the scenes to improve people’s health? Provide that all-important data doctors need as they work with patients?
At Defiance College, the medical laboratory science program turns students into laboratory technologists who can draw blood, match blood types, test body fluids, and run computers that perform medical tasks.
Unique in its 3+1 program structure, medical laboratory science involves three years of classes in biology, chemistry and immunology followed by one full year of clinical experience in an accredited hospital or laboratory. Acceptance into the fourth year of clinical experience is competitive, and there is no guarantee of placement.
Throughout the program, professors and students work closely in preparation for careers in hospital laboratories, doctors’ offices, medical clinics, and private laboratories or advanced studies.
Defiance College is pleased to be affiliated in the region with such programs and hospitals as the Parkview Health System Laboratories Medical Technology Program in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Mercy Labs in Toledo, Ohio.
