Want to know what makes a good nurse? Jean Watson, Distinguished Professor of Nursing at University of Colorado Denver, claims, “Caring is the essence of nursing.” And Watson is right.
Just think about it. At the beginning and end of life, nurses care. During routine vaccinations and blood pressure checks, nurses care. Throughout wellness checks and chemotherapy treatments, in emergency rooms and doctors offices, nurses care. Whenever they listen to patients, talk with families, and strategize with doctors, nurses care.
The Defiance College RN to BSN completion program is designed for associate degree or diploma prepared nurses who have graduated from an accredited nursing program, have a current and unencumbered Ohio RN licensure, and wish to pursue the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree.
The BSN is a response by public and private colleges to a community identified need for baccalaureate-prepared nurses, and offers expanded career options for persons in the nursing field by combining technical aspects of nursing with the leadership skills necessary in today’s dynamic healthcare environment.
The Defiance College RN to BSN completion program combines the clinical abilities and experiences that Registered Nurses already possess with additional technical aspects, broad-based knowledge in the liberal arts, and core nursing courses to prepare them for leadership positions, advancement into other healthcare opportunities, and meeting the challenges of today’s ever changing healthcare needs of individuals, families, and communities.
Defiance College understands the compassion, intelligence, and skill it takes to be a nurse. Join the nursing program and prepare to care.

“Having three young children at home and working full-time, I needed to find a school that could work around my life while being affordable at the same time. So when a friend suggested I look into the RN to BSN program at Defiance College, I approached the idea with some initial hesitation; that is, until I stepped into the CAP office. Everyone in the CAP office is and continues to be extremely warm, welcoming and helpful. Then when I found out that all of my credits transferred from my previous college work, and the bonus of having the college so close to my home, I knew that the Defiance College RN to BSN program was the right choice for me! The smaller classroom setting along with hybrid courses have been the perfect fit for me. This program offers me the opportunity to further my education without having to place my family and work life on the back burner.”
