Honor students are allowed to petition instructors for honor status in individual courses. The student is responsible for filing a written proposal detailing an honors component appropriate course. This is done by completing and submitting the Honors Option Course (Form A). Examples of honors option components might include research projects, performances, essays, field-work, and/or other activities that demonstrate the integration of interdisciplinary approaches that work to move student learning to a level beyond that which is required for the course. The requirements for an Honors Option Course are below:
(1) The honors member must ask the supervising faculty if they are willing to supervise the honors project.
(2) The student must propose a course of study with the faculty member teaching the course.
(3) The faculty member must agree to supervise the project.
(4) The Honors Option Course (Form A) must be completed and turned in prior to the 4th week of the semester.
(5) The student and faculty member must AGREE on an assignment, method of evaluation and date of completion.
(6) The honors member must satisfactorily complete the assignment as agreed upon before the Honors Course designation will be awarded.
(7) The student should present the Honors Course project at the Honors Symposium.
Honor students may also participate in special topic honors courses or honors independent study coursework. These courses will stand in place of an Honors Option Course when they are offered.
All completed honors courses will be noted on the student's transcripts with an honor designation. A minimum of one Honors Option Course is to be completed during each academic year for the student to be maintained in the Honors program.
