Bio
Kevin Tong is the Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Professor in the Sports Science Department. Starting at DC in the fall of 1997, he oversees the medical coverage for the many intercollegiate sports sponsored by Defiance College, with primary athletic training duties for the football and men's basketball programs. As a tenured faculty member, Kevin teaches courses in the sports science areas and classes specific to the athletic training program. Working with students in both the didactic and clinical setting, Kevin has led an annual trip of Defiance College athletic training staff and students to the state of New York to volunteer on the medical staff for the Empire State Games since 2003. Prior to coming to DC, he was on the athletic training staff of the Tampa Bay Mutiny of Major League Soccer for the 1997 season.
A native of Athens, Ohio, Kevin graduated from Ohio University with a B.S. in athletic training with an emphasis in exercise physiology. He served as an athletic training student while with the Bobcats, working with football, wrestling, baseball, track, swimming & diving, and women's basketball. After completing his degree, he was employed by Wagner College (NY) as an assistant athletic trainer from 1995-1997 during which he earned a Master of Science degree in education. At Wagner, his athletic training responsibilities focused on football, baseball, track and men's tennis coverage. Kevin and his wife Kelly reside in Defiance with their four children; Cameron, Owen, Paige and Ian. Kevin is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Defiance and active with coaching youth sports in the Defiance area.
