Tony Campolo discusses the Christian Faith at the end of the 20th century...and into the 21st century, which he believes will be Christianity's "best and brightest day." 004. ALL YOUR PARTS DON'T WEAR OUT AT THE SAME TIME

This video aids us in exploring the concept of aging and setting aside some of our fears and doubts. In this video Susan Rowland selected seven women and men to form a drama group which presents interesting vignettes from their memories. The video follows the seven women through rehearsals, interviews in their own homes, and performances. The group learns to relate to each other and to grow as individuals. A study guide is included to assist the leader in use of this film. (1992)

006. AMERICA!, THE HOMELESS

The 16th General Synod of the United Church Of Christ called on the whole church to address the problem of homelessness and affordable housing. This original video series was developed in response to that call. The study guide was developed to assist groups in successfully using the video series to inform or develop awareness and programs on a local basis. Bear in mind that homelessness is a global issue. The video is presented to deal with this issue on a domestic level but do not hesitate to introduce additional material to broaden the discussion.

This video features interviews with men as they discuss their attitudes toward their maleness. This program also deals with the pressures society places on males, male security needs, etc. The tape offers suggestions on how the church can help men deal with mid-life problems.

008. BACK BAY MISSION WORKS

From Biloxi, Mississippi, this video presents a summary of this vital program. One out of every four Biloxi residents are under the poverty level. Back Bay Mission provides assistance with shelter, food, applications, clothing, work camp programs and numerous other ways. (1993)

009. BARRINGTON BUNNY

A delightful animated video for Christmas to explain that everyone is special. Barrington is a little bunny which is all alone on Christmas. Barrington hops around the forest asking to join in the celebrations of the other animals. He is welcomed but his inability to swim, climb, etc., stops him from joining the celebrations. He feels rejected because his only gift is that he is warm and furry. He feels that this gift is worthless until he is able to save the life of a baby field mouse.

This video challenges the notion of being "wired to the world" as youth get connected to themselves, their faith and the realities of hunger and poverty around the world. The video shows these youth experiencing a day in the life of their global brothers and sisters and spend the night in Guatemalan, African or Brazilian barrio home. These experiences help show what is really important in life.

016. BRIDGES

This is a story of three generations and how they relate. The mother, Ellen, is caught between her father and her son. Ellen is still being affected by her father and his attitudes. Ellen in turn is treating her son the same way that her father treated her. When this is pointed out by her son, Ellen is able to talk to her father about her needs and is able to more fully share love. This video describes the questions we have about the Bible and what we are basing our faith on. Also explained is how the Bible is "the blue print of life." This video helps us understand some of our questions about Heaven. Where is Heaven? How do we get there? People share near death experiences. 023A. CHRISTIAN PARABLES FROM SCIENCE

The video tape "Christian Parables from Science" uses science experiments to generate spiritual messages. It is aimed at young people and it can also be used as a resource for Christian leaders such as Sunday school teachers, youth pastors and youth workers. Deane Hutton presents science demonstrations directly to camera so they can be used as self-contained stories for groups of young people. Each parable is presented with a passage from scripture which supports the Christian message. A wide range of topics are covered including; faith, the nature of God, new life in Christ, and Christian living. An alternative use of the video is also possible. Christian leaders may wish to view the parables and then adapt them for their own use. To facilitate this application of the video, Deane presents a "background information" section at the end of each parable. This video can be very fun!

023B. MORE CHRISTIAN PARABLES FROM SCIENCE

This video tape is the second in the series of resource materials in which science experiments are used to generate spiritual messages. In the video, Deane Hutton presents the science demonstrations directly to the camera so that they can be used as self-contained stories for young people. Alternatively, Christian leaders may prefer to view the parables then adapt them for their own use. To facilitate this application of the video, Deane presents a "background information" section at the end of the parable. When students have viewed or experienced the experiments they can be encouraged to do the experiment at home with their family, and share its application to our faith journey. Emphasis is made about the relationship of the experiments and the scripture verse used. This video can be very fun!

In one sense, the calendar of the Christian year is a point of unification among all liturgically-oriented churches. Various denominations, however, vary somewhat in the particulars of the Christian year. The names of certain feasts or festivals, the dates on which they are celebrated, those feasts/festivals which are chosen for emphasis, the liturgical color scheme, etc., are all matters of tradition and preference within individual Churches. The purpose of "THE CHRISTIAN YEAR," series is to recognize those themes which are shared by nearly all churches following the Christian yearly cycle, and to make the Christian year a more meaningful and viable part, not only of worship, but of daily experience. Clayton Barbeau, the father of eight children, is a licensed marriage, child, and family counselor. Barbeau is a humorous and entertaining speaker who is able to share ways of coping with personal feelings and relationships. This series which is entertaining and enlightening, may be used in groups to aid in understanding ourselves and others.

Each tape may be used in either twenty or thirty minute segments by stopping the tape at natural breaks in the presentation.

This video is a response to the powerful and wonderful grace God has shown to everyone in Baptism. For those who do not yet recognize God’s action in Baptism or those who want to sharpen their appreciation for God’s love which is shown to them in this Holy Sacrament. The video is aimed at new parents or expectant couples who are just beginning to learn what Baptism means in their own lives and the life of their child. The booklet can be used with the video or alone.

This is from the Nanny and Isaiah animated (puppets) collection. Nanny's elderly friend, Miss Peach, dies. Mrs. MacTuggle, Nanny's care giver, develops a bad cold and Nanny fears that Mrs. MacTuggle might die. Isaiah doesn't get a part in the school play and is disappointed. These experiences help Nanny and Isaiah learn about Easter and its importance to our faith. This video is a delightful Family Film.

The Life of Christ is retold in this film through the beautiful art works of the great masters; Goya, El Greco, Van Eyck, Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Raphael and Valazquez. Beginning with his birth in Bethlehem, Jesus’ footsteps are traced through his public life, the sermon on the mount, the confrontation with the Pharisees, the last supper, His death and resurrection. The narration is taken principally from the words of the gospel writers themselves. This title is the Latin words for "Behold the Man (Christ)" and certainly presents Jesus in a beautiful and moving religious context for believer and non-believer alike. Study Guide included.

  • Episode 1 - BODY IMAGE 6 minutes. Have you heard the expression, "It’s not whether you win or lose the game, it’s how you look playing the game!" This episode talks about the image we have of ourselves and Gods’ image for us. The eating disorders, anorexia, and bulimia are discussed.
  • Episode 2 - McLANE GOES TO AFRICA 7minutes. A teenager is being forced to move to Africa with his parents who do missionary work. This episode is ideal for kids who have disrupted lives or are anticipating a change.
  • Episode 3 - JULIE MILLER 12 minutes. Recording artist Julie is a survivor of sexual abuse. 1 out of 3 girls and 1 out of 6 boys are sexually assaulted in some form before the age of 18.
  • Episode 4 - LEXICON-O-RAMA 3 minutes. Christian and non-Christian youths are questioned on Evangelism, Sin, and Conversion. Check out their answers.
  • Episode 5 - WHY AM I NOT A CHRISTIAN? 2 minutes. He is not a Christian but listen to his reasons. The answers given are why Christians today have all the more reasons to follow Jesus.

  • Episode 3 - BEHIND THE WALL - 4.5 minutes. Accompany the International Bible Society on a trip to Moscow. What would teens today think of standing in the middle of a mob of people desperate to get their hands on a Bible?
  • Episode 4 - WHY I’M NOT A CHRISTIAN - 2 minutes. The reasons given for not being a Christian are the same reasons to be a Christian!
  • Episode 5 - CHARLIE PEACOCK - 11.5 minutes. A recording artist tells his life story straight from the heart.
  • Episode 6 - AFTER THE PARTY -4 minutes. The first rule for getting along with your parents is that you must admit only what they already know. Right? Let your class figure it out.

In these three films, the "carousel" and it's "eight rides" serve as metaphors for life and it's stages as outlined in psychoanalyst Erik H. Erikson's theory of personality and human development. The video is presented in stages and the stages are dramatized in familiar situations. Examples include a couple talking about having another child, an elderly couple sharing trick or treat night together.

Produced in 1992 by Compassion International. Heart-moving video about a trip taken by a youth group into the poverty-stricken areas of Ecuador. Their hearts are changed and molded by the love of the people they meet and the love of the Lord. Ideal for youth groups.

046. FACES OF POVERTY

All people living in poverty are not on welfare. This video uses interviews and case histories to share the idea that the poor, are our neighbors. The case histories help to dispel the notion that poor people neither try nor strive for success.

047. FACES ON FAITH

"Faces on Faith" features religious and secular thinkers who shared their views in "Questions of Faith" and Questions of Faith II". Each tape focuses on one speaker. The speaker's ideas and beliefs encourage discussion and self searching. The following are the tapes in our collection:

  • 047. Harvey Cox - Professor of Theology at Harvard and author; Cox responds to the questions of who is Jesus, reality of God, struggle of truth, who is in charge, what gives life meaning, death and many others. Cox states that religion for him is suffused with other dimensions of his life and that his reality of God comes from others (both dead and alive) and experiences.
  • 047. James Forbes - Senior pastor at Riverside Church in New York City - Known as one of the most forceful and inspirational preachers in the country and Popular speaker of conferences around the country. Dr. Forbes expresses a liberal sentiment in the social and political issues of the present.
  • 047. Harold Kushner - Author of "When Bad Things Happen to Good People" the story of his experience with the illness and death of his only son. Kushner is Rabbi at Temple Israel in Natick, Massachusetts. Kushner does not have an image of God but sees the image of God represented in the godly things that people do. He responds to the questions of what is prayer, how do you see Jesus, who is in charge, who is responsible for evil, from a loving, caring, non-judgmental position.
  • 047. Martin Marty - Historian, theologian, and author of over 30 books, Marty was awarded National Book Award for his book "The Righteous Empire". He is spearheading a committee at Park Ridge Center on medical and moral ethics. Marty responded to questions presented to him by sharing what his image of God is, how God touches life, when he prays and what prayer means to him, what nurtures spirituality, who is Jesus, how his own faith developed and many others.
  • 047. Virginia Ramey Mollenkott - A Professor of Literature and an author, Mollenkott was reared in a fundamentalist Protestant religion. Her exposure to the feminist movement led to her examining her beliefs. This examination caused her to search for a more complete and personal meaning in her faith. A reference to the fact that there are two versions of the creation in the book of Genesis led her to examine the Bible with an openness she had never experienced before.
  • 047. Elisabeth Schussler-Fiorenza - Author of "In Memory of Her". Professor of New Testament at Harvard Divinity School, Schussler-Fiorenza tells of a discussion with her daughter when the daughter was 4 years old. The daughter decided that since God was in us, boys should call God "He" and girls should call God "She". Schussler-Fiorenza relates this to her own journey of faith and how she views God. She discusses feminist theology and liberation theology in addition to other topics associated with her faith.
  • 047. Bernie Siegel - Physician and author of "Love, Medicine and Miracles". Dr. Bernie Siegel’s prescription of daily prayer, reading of Psalms and reconciliation of all relationships challenges the medical profession to look beyond the confines of drugs as the only treatment for terminal illness. Dr. Siegel has encouraged thousands of patients, families, and other medical professionals to view afflictions as a opportunity for redirection, and an opportunity to love without boundaries. Loving is his key message.
  • 047. Desmond Tutu - Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end apartheid, Anglican Archbishop of Capetown, Tutu states that Jesus makes God real to him. Tutu talks about his views on death and how he lives with death on a daily basis. Tutu discusses his image of God, goodness, evil, and other topics from a traditionalist point of view.
  • 047. Jim Wallis - Founder of the Sojourners Community in Washington D. C., editor of the "Sojourners" magazine, which is a internationally recognized publication of Christian social action. He is a long-time advocate of the oppressed and the poor. Jim and his fellow community members take a hands on approach to those outside the privileges of society by living with them.
  • 047. Robert Fulhum - He is the author of "All I Need To Know, I Learned In Kindergarten" and "Maybe, Maybe Not." He allows us to explore his inner most thoughts and ideas on God. How he thought as a child that God’s name was Howard and how even as a child he applied that directly to his life. He discusses our rituals, our patterns and habits that give structure and meaning to our lives.
  • 047. Marian Wright Edelman
    26 minutes J-A
    Marian Wright Edelman is the founder and president of the Children’s Defense fund. Her best-selling book, "The Measure of Our Success: A Letter to my Children and Yours," outlines timeless lessons for living a moral and compassionate life. In this video Edelman talks about what family means to her and how, as a child, family’s extended into the community which gave children a greater sense of security. This is something that is missing in our society today.
