"The Wind And The Sea" - 11 minutes. This video is based on the Parable of the Sower. The West Wind takes some petunia seeds for a ride and drops them in various places. Some of the seeds do not grow, others start to grow but wilt, others are crowded out by onions, and some fall in the right place and grow. This is then related to the Parable of the Sower.

"The Fairy Ring"- 7 minutes. This video is based on the Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds. Puck eats a mushroom which makes him ill. Puck immediately wants to destroy all mushrooms until he is convinced that this would also destroy good mushrooms. This is then related to the Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds.

"The Pearl Of Great Price" - 8 minutes. This video is based on the Parable of the Pearl of Great Price. Mr. Gull owns a jewelry store and when he is offered the most wonderful pearl he has ever seen, he trades everything he has in exchange for the pearl.

BRUSO, THE BEAVER-15 minutes. Based on the Parable of the Laborers, Matthew 20:1-16. Bruso helps children to understand that we should serve God willingly and joyfully because the spirit in which we work counts more with Him than the amount of work we do.

JUSTUS THE ANT - 15 minutes. Based on the Parable of the Selfish Vineyard Keeper, Luke 20:9-16. Easily illustrates to children, that the Earth and all that is in it, belong to God and we should give thanks to God for the blessings that we receive.

SILLY EXCUSES - 10 minutes. Based on the Parable of the Wedding Feast, Luke 14:16-24, Bobby the Badger and his friends make up silly excuses to avoid attending the Woodscout Picnic and regret their decision.

HOUSE OF THE WREN - 15 minutes. Based on the Parable of the Two builders, Luke 6:46-49. Mr. and Mrs. Wren ignore Mr. Owl’s advice and pick a poorly constructed nest for a home. A storm blows the nest down. Children learn they need to listen to God to do what is right.

BOOTSIE THE LAMB -15 minutes. Based on the Parable of the Lost Sheep, Matthew 18:10-14. A little girl loses her favorite stuffed toy which is a lamb named Bootsie. It is a rainy night and the mother and little girl go out into the rain and darkness to find Bootsie. This video stresses the importance of each individual to God.

FEATHER THAT WAS LOST, THE - 7 minutes. Based on the Parable of the Lost Coin, Luke 15:8-10. Dorothy Doe and her friends search for one lost peacock feather. The video illustrates the value of each individual in the sight of God and that God searches for those who have gotten lost from his love.

COMMENCEMENT AT THE OBEDIENCE ACADEMY-10 minutes. Based on the Parable of the Pharisee and Publican, Luke 18: 9-14. Polly Poodle allowed her pride to get in the way of the important lesson she was to learn at the Obedience Academy . The lesson was that conduct and attitude are more important than a pedigree.

Each song is presented using drama, interpretive dance and mime’ which is performed by teens. Church groups may use this video to compare todays’ message by other music videos. This video could also be used to encourage groups to start their own interpretive dance performances or to use mime as a ministry.

The world and circumstances of our lives change and so, in every generation, we struggle to find a new meaning that fits what we know now. In this series a variety of contemporary thinkers reflect on such issues.

133. SELFISH GIANT

A beautiful garden surrounded the palace of the giant. The neighborhood children liked to play in the garden. One day the giant, who had been gone on a long trip, returned to the palace. He chased the children away and wouldn't allow them to play in the garden. Winter descended on the garden and would not leave. One day a small boy crept through a hole in the wall and spring came back to the garden. When the giant saw what happened he invited all the children in and spring stayed. The giant learned that sharing is better.

Ten year old Tammy hopes to keep the doll under the Christmas tree, which is meant for her cousin. Through a fantasy, we are taken back to Bethlehem to see the little stableboys’ act of unselfish love when he gives the Christ child his pet lamb. Tammy then realizes how sharing with others is a way of sharing Gods’ love at Christmas.

Clayton Barbeau, the father of eight children, is a licensed marriage, child, and family counselor. Barbeau uses a format different from his coping series. In this series, he is seated in his den and speaks more to the individual. This series is usable for either groups or individuals. Understanding will aid all of those involved in surviving these life transitions.

These segments help in both the teaching and learning of religious education through the use and exploration of our imaginations. The study guide includes reproducibles. The tapes will indicate when to stop the tape so that the reproducibles can be filled out and discussed.

  • Segment 1 - "Imagination As Religious" 26 minutes - What is teaching? What is religious teaching? How can you bring imagination into religious education?
  • Segment 2 - "Teaching As an Imaginative Activity" 28 minutes - What do you think is the role of contemplation in teaching? Have you seen emergence in a student during your teaching?
  • Segment 3 - "Teaching As the Incarnation of Subject Matter" 30 minutes - What is your favorite learning style? How can you present subject matter in ways that address all of the four styles of learning?
  • Segment 4 - "Teaching As the Revelation of Subject Matter" 29 minutes - Describe a major moment in your life, what did you learn? How did you learn it and how did it feel?
  • Segment 5 - "Teaching As Mediating the Grace of Power" 27 minutes - What "powers" (capacities and abilities) should you help students find in themselves?

Series 1: The Parables

  • Phoney Baloney -10 minutes. Simon, the wealthy man allows distractions in life to consume his relationship with God, whereas Jonathon, turns to God for strength. Depicts, it is not who you are, but how you are.
  • The Two Sons - 11 minutes. Benjamin and Samuel are two brothers that could not be more different. One is obedient and agreeable and concerned with obeying the rules. The other son is more concerned with matters of the heart yet he is constantly getting onto trouble
  • The Greatest Dinner Party - 10 minutes. Everyone loves dinner parties, you usually have a great time once you’re there. But there is effort required in attending. You have to prepare yourself, put aside your worries to really enter in the celebration and perhaps mingle with people you would not invite to your dinner party. Sometimes we attend out of obligation, is this how we answer Gods’ call?
  • Gifts and Talents - 8 minutes. God gives all of us gifts and talents, it is up to us to use them. In this story, three men are given money to see what they would do with it. Two of the men make good use of the money, but the third does not use it and reaps no rewards.

This video was produced for the Council For American Indian Ministry (CAIM). Twenty four U.C.C. churches, located in North and South Dakota , Wisconsin , and Minnesota , make up the group known as CAIM. This video talks about some of the past interactions between the white men and the Indians and shows some of the present day results of these interactions. Facts are presented using statistics which show the negative effects that past actions have had on the Indian.

This video is useful to educate people on the status of the present day Indian. The video is presented in a straightforward manner and does not rely on sensationalism. *It is recommended that the junior high teacher preview this video to determine if it is suitable for the class. 148. TRAINING VOLUNTEERS IN YOUTH MINISTRY

This 4 tape series includes a leader's guide with both general information pertaining to the selection of the proper volunteer for the position being filled and specific information for each subject. The series will help strengthen the volunteer programs in youth ministry. Each tape is informative, easily understood, and presented in an orderly fashion.

  • 148.Tape 1 - "Youth Ministry Basics" - This segment deals with the philosophy of youth ministry. A list of social concerns is presented with statistics relating to involvement of church youth. Peer pressure is discussed and the importance of a support system is stressed. Adults whose lives were influenced by their youth leader share their stories.
  • 148.Tape 2 - "Understanding Teenagers" - This segment explains the place independence has in the teens' life and how reaching for independence affects the teens' behavior. Teens share their feelings about their parents and friends. The importance of role modeling for teens is stressed and explained.
  • 148.Tape 3 - "Building Relationships" - This segment contains a lot of important information that helps in relating to teens plus information on ways to help the teen deal with emotions. Listening is stressed with guidelines on the best way to listen. Suicide is discussed with the warning signs listed and guidance is given on ways to deal with the potential suicide. Substance abuse is another area of importance that is stressed with the warning signs and aids to help the teen presented. Discipline is another topic of discussion with suggestions on ways of disciplining that work. A topic that is important concerns ways to deal wit the teen you do not like.
  • 148.Tape 4 – “Keys For Successful Meetings” – In this segment ideas on setting up a meeting are included. The area of needs of the teen are: Intellectual, Social, Emotional, Spiritual, and Physical. Suggestions are given on ways to meet these needs. This part of the series teaches how to lead a discussion with guidance on dealing with the dominant person and the silent person. “Teachable moments” are very important in teen ministry. This tape uses a vignette to demonstrate how not to miss important signs.
