PERIODICAL DATABASES
Available via the college’s home page: Go to www.defiance.edu and click on “Library.” Look for the databases links on either side of the photo of the Library’s web page.

Most OhioLink databases are accessible from your home computer if you are a registered DC library patron in good standing. Use the “off campus access” link. You will be asked which college you are affiliated with (choose OPAL if Defiance is not in the list), and for your name and barcode from your ID card.

If for some reason you cannot access the databases from the DC web site, try going directly to OhioLink’s website, www.ohiolink.edu. Look for “Explore OhioLink databases” in the lower left corner.

If you have trouble accessing the databases from home, call the Pilgrim Library’s circulation desk at 419.783.2481, or call or email one of the staff (see the Library’s web page for staff directory) and we will try to straighten the problem out. Firewalls on corporate computers sometimes block access, depending on how your workplace has them set up.

There are additional databases besides those listed below that may cover educational topics, but they are the best ones to start with:

• ERIC
  Indexes journal articles, government documents, unpublished papers, etc. in the field of education. Very little full text.
• Education Abstracts
  Indexes education journal articles. Has some full text. Must have Adobe Acrobat on your computer to be able to retrieve the full text articles, which are in pdf files.
• Professional Development Collection
  Indexes education publications. Has quite a few full text articles.
• Academic Search Premier
  Indexes magazines and some journals on general topics, not only education. Has lots of full text.
• A Matter of Fact
  Excellent source for statistics. Extracts the part of the magazine article or speech that contains the statistics, and reproduces it within the citation.
• Lexis/Nexis
  A good source for legal documents, such as the state code, court decisions, and also general news articles.

FINDING OTHER STUDENTS' MASTER'S PROJECTS IN EDUCATION IN THE LIBRARY
Access the Library's online catalog through our web page, or go directly to: http://198.30.145.251/search/ If you do this from your home or office computer, you will get the online catalog for the whole OPAL consortium, not only Defiance's holdings, unless you change the settings manually.

Do a title search for: Defiance College masters projects. This should bring up the list of all education and business master's projects that have been sent to the library. You can sort the list by date or other means by clicking on the "limit this search" button. If you know a particular project's author, you can search that way, too.

Currently, all master's projects are listed together in the catalog and are not separated out by business or education categories.

If you are in the Library and want to browse the projects, the education ones are currently shelved with other materials on the same topic, not all together. All of them look alike, however—they are all bound in black buckram (fake leather-looking material) with white lettering on the spine, so it is possible to walk down the shelves in the library and spot them by sight. Most, but not all, are shelved in the education section, which have call numbers beginning with the letter "L," located near the photocopier on the lower level.
