Honors, Dean’s Lists Announced
for Fall Semester 2011
Each semester Defiance College recognizes students who have attained an outstanding level of academic excellence by naming them to either the Dean’s list or the school honors list.

Defiance College Receives
Accreditation for Nursing Program
The baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Defiance College has been granted accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Defiance College Offers Club Wrestling
Defiance College has announced that it will begin offering club wrestling to provide an opportunity for wrestlers to continue their sport after high school. The club will compete in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association’s North Central Conference, an association which supports more than 150 men's and women's club wrestling teams in colleges across the nation.

DC PC Solutions Accepting
Computer Donations
After a successful first year, Defiance College Personal Computer Solutions is continuing to provide computer repair assistance and is also accepting unwanted computers and equipment. During its first semester, DC PC Solutions provided computer repair assistance to more than 20 members of the community.

Freshman Service Day 2011
It was perfect weather for this year’s Freshman Service Day on Friday morning as Defiance College freshmen and their First Year Experience instructors headed out across campus and across the city to lend a hand. This year’s sites included the Defiance County Senior Center, Defiance County Job and Family Services, Habitat for Humanity Restore, Camp Libbey, Defiance Elementary School, Zion Lutheran Church, the DC campus, and homes of local senior citizens.

Cambodia McMaster Trip
The McMaster Cambodia Learning Community traveled to Cambodia for three weeks in June where seven Student Scholars and three faculty members conducted their projects. Projects ranged from providing microscopes and training to diagnose malaria, to water testing, to CPR and first aid training. Students also continued work on the cycle bead project for natural birth control, coping skills and non-violent parenting techniques at the Cambodia Women’s Crisis Center, and researching traditional herbal medicine practices.

Homecoming 2011
Dedication of the new George M. Smart Athletic Center highlighted this year’s Defiance College homecoming festivities. It was a week of celebration with many alumni groups returning to campus to reminisce about the past and share in the excitement of today’s DC. From recognition of alumni accomplishments to the first glimpses of a much-anticipated field house, there was plenty to celebrate!

Defiance College Dedicates
George M. Smart Athletic Center
Defiance College dedicated its new 84,411-square-foot field house on Friday and officially named it the George M. Smart Athletic Center. Smart, a 1967 graduate of Defiance College serves on the board of trustees and is chairman of the capital campaign that has raised $4 million for the field house.

Defiance College Enjoys Record Freshman ClassDefiance College has recorded its largest new student class with more than 370 entering students.
This year’s freshmen class is more ethnically and geographically diverse than in recent years with more than 25 percent of the class comprised of students of racial or ethnic minorities compared to 18 percent last year. Nearly 40 percent of these students come from outside the state of Ohio, a significant increase over 2010. Applications for admission were received from 48 states and U.S. territories.

DC Students to perform Fraud Risk Assessments for local Non-profits
Accounting students at Defiance College will begin helping local non-profits, churches and charitable organizations by conducting fraud risk assessments. Key areas the students will look at include segregation of duties, safeguarding of cash and inventory, conflicts of interest, and governance environment.

DC students assist Defiance Regional Hospital, Mercy Hospital and Clinic in innovative partnership to provide health care clinic
The Defiance Cares Free Clinic will open on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The free monthly health clinic is a partnership with ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital, Mercy Hospital of Defiance, and Defiance Clinic to provide a monthly primary health care for residents of Defiance County.
