A Campaign to Defy the Ordinary is a five-year, $26 million effort to transform the scope of what Defiance College can do for students and society. 

On the surface, it is numbers, assigned to projects and priorities. But that doesn’t begin to convey the story of its true aim, or of how crucial you are to the telling.

To defy the ordinary is to think differently. It is to break free from the comfortable but too often stagnating familiarity of convention. To discover new paths to better places. Defy the Ordinary: it is the charge we give to ourselves, to our students, and now to you.

At its core, Defiance prepares students to be of service in ways that are as boundless as the imagination. They road test classroom knowledge through service and research projects at home or abroad. They gain intercultural and international experience that sows the seeds of wisdom. They connect the story of their lives to others. In doing so, they deeply change the way they see the world.

What does such a story have to do with you? By supporting A Campaign to Defy the Ordinary, you will help students begin new and better stories. You will help them become impassioned professionals and community leaders.

Imagine if every student had an opportunity for an international travel experience or could walk into a campus classroom and have an international experience brought to them through the capabilities of today’s technology, learning directly from scholars and business leaders in other countries. This opportunity to enhance our academic excellence and give students the financial assistance they need to take advantage of it is being made possible because the new field house and wellness center will cost $6 million less than was originally anticipated.  The college will be raising $3.5 million in seed money to start a series of initiatives that will put Defiance College on the map in a new way, with our distinctive model of undergraduate education.  In addition, a financial aid initiative seeks $2.5 million to provide immediate assistance to deserving students. These exciting initiatives are the final phase of the Transforming Difference Campaign.
