Faculty Positions

Visiting Scholar in Religious Studies

The Charles K. and Esther C. Krieger Visiting Scholars Program at Defiance College invites applications for a Visiting Scholar in Religious Studies for an 18-month appointment from Spring 2026 through Spring 2027. The Visiting Scholar will teach three courses per semester in religious studies, including courses in the scholar’s area of interest, and the first-year seminar Reacting to the Past. The Visiting Scholar will also coordinate programming on interfaith dialogue, understanding, and justice, and engage in research benefitting students and society. The Visiting Scholar also submits an annual report of activities due to the Krieger foundation.

The position provides an annual stipend of $44,000 with housing and board, plus health benefits. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in Religion or Religious Studies or relevant field. An advanced ABD candidate will also be considered. The Krieger Scholar position is meant to rotate between specializations in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. As the last Krieger Scholar within this cycle was an expert in Christianity, the current search is open to those specializing in either Judaism or Islam. We are especially interested in (but not limited to) a scholar who has experience in teaching newer subfields such as those involving trans-nationalism, post-colonial studies, race, gender, sexuality, and/or ability.

Part-time Faculty Positions

Teacher Education Clinical Supervisors

The Teacher Education program is seeking part-time clinical supervisors for teacher education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences and in 15-week student teaching experiences for the fall and spring semesters. Our licensure areas include early and middle childhood education, adolescent and young adult (core content areas), and intervention specialist mild-to-moderate (K-12). Clinical supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a master’s degree in education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. General Information for Part-Time Faculty Positions

Defiance College is often in need of qualified individuals for our part-time faculty pool. Format of classes is generally face-to-face and content areas of need vary from semester to semester. Part-time faculty are responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear directives, and timely and helpful feedback. Applicants must hold a master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a relevant field and professional or teaching experience is desirable. Administrative Positions

Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach

Defiance College, an NAIA institution and member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), seeks applications for an Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach.

Under the direction of the Director of Volleyball, responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • In-Game coaching and practice planning and executing
  • Coach and develop athletes who are in the reserves program
  • Recruiting student-athletes including identifying potential student-athletes, initial contacts, and coordinating visits
  • Fundraising assistance
  • Monitoring strength & conditioning workouts
  • Assist in developing annual service/engagement projects for student-athletes
  • Team travel arrangements
  • Social media
  • Assisting head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and evaluation, academic monitoring, and other duties as assigned
  • Assist in game management of other sports outside of playing season

 

The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the mission of Defiance College, as well as adherence to institutional, NAIA, and WHAC policies and procedures.

A bachelor’s degree, previous coaching experience, and a valid driver’s license are required; master’s degree preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with previous collegiate coaching experience who can demonstrate strong communication skills, successful recruiting experience, and the ability to lead and serve our student-athletes.

Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach

Defiance College invites applications for an Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach. This position will assist the Head Coach in all aspects of coaching, recruiting, and program administration for a competitive men’s soccer program that reflects the mission and values of Defiance College/WHAC and NAIA athletics. Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assist with planning, organizing, and conducting practice sessions and competitive matches.
  • Support all aspects of the recruiting process, including identification, evaluation, and communication with prospective student-athletes.
  • Foster the academic, athletic, and personal growth of student-athletes.
  • Assist with scouting, game analysis, and video breakdown using software such as Hudl or Veo.
  • Coordinate team travel, equipment, and compliance documentation as assigned.
  • Understanding of and commitment to NAIA philosophy and adherence to NAIA, WHAC, and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Promote a culture of sportsmanship, accountability, and respect consistent with the mission of Defiance College.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics, such as:
    • Maintain the soccer field, including all aspects of maintenance.
    • Maintain the Head Coach’s recruiting databases, correspondence, and documentation.
    • Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting training sessions.
    • Provide individual instruction to enhance players’ technical, tactical, physical, and psychological development.
    • Analyze game footage and performance data to improve team and player performance.
    • Help implement team strategies, formations, and style of play consistent with the program’s philosophy.
    • Support the Head Coach in developing game plans and making in-game tactical adjustments.
    • Participate in player evaluations and feedback sessions.
    • Build and sustain relationships with club and high school coaches, prospective student-athletes, and families.
    • Coordinate official and unofficial campus visits.
    • Represent the program at recruiting events, showcases, and tournaments nationally and internationally.
    • Recruit quality Student-Athletes (Nationally and Internationally)
    • Develop and supervise practices, game planning, scheduling arrangements, and off-season training.

 

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to travel as needed; have strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; and previous successful soccer playing or coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level. Preference will be given to candidates with experience as a goalkeeper coach or recruiting coordinator, have familiarity with recruiting software and video analysis tools (Hudl, Veo, NSCA, Front Rush, etc.) and possess USSF “D” or “C” coaching license – USC (HSCAA) goalkeeper/coaching diploma.

This is a full-time, 10-month position (August 1-May 31) with an immediate start date this first year.
