Visiting Scholar in Religious Studies

The Charles K. and Esther C. Krieger Visiting Scholars Program at Defiance College invites applications for a Visiting Scholar in Religious Studies for an 18-month appointment from Spring 2026 through Spring 2027. The Visiting Scholar will teach three courses per semester in religious studies, including courses in the scholar’s area of interest, and the first-year seminar Reacting to the Past. The Visiting Scholar will also coordinate programming on interfaith dialogue, understanding, and justice, and engage in research benefitting students and society. The Visiting Scholar also submits an annual report of activities due to the Krieger foundation. The position provides an annual stipend of $44,000 with housing and board, plus health benefits. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in Religion or Religious Studies or relevant field. An advanced ABD candidate will also be considered. The Krieger Scholar position is meant to rotate between specializations in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. As the last Krieger Scholar within this cycle was an expert in Christianity, the current search is open to those specializing in either Judaism or Islam. We are especially interested in (but not limited to) a scholar who has experience in teaching newer subfields such as those involving trans-nationalism, post-colonial studies, race, gender, sexuality, and/or ability.

Part Time Instructors

Defiance College is often in need of qualified individuals for our part-time faculty pool. Format of classes is generally face-to-face and content areas of need vary from semester to semester. Part-time faculty are responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear directives, and timely and helpful feedback. Applicants must hold a master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a relevant field and professional or teaching experience is desirable. Composition: The English Department seeks adjuncts to provide quality instruction for both freshmen and sophomore composition courses. Teacher Education Clinical Supervisors

The Teacher Education program is seeking part-time clinical supervisors for teacher education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences and in 15-week student teaching experiences for the fall and spring semesters. Our licensure areas include early and middle childhood education, adolescent and young adult (core content areas), and intervention specialist mild-to-moderate (K-12). Clinical supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus. Requirements include a master’s degree in education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred.

Assistant Director of Athletic Communications 

Defiance College, an NAIA institution and member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) located in Northwest Ohio, seeks qualified applicants for a full-time assistant to the Director of Athletic Communications. The individual will assist with coordination of publicity, media relations and promotion of the College’s 18 intercollegiate sports programs. Primary responsibilities will include serving as the main contact for several sports; layout and design of media guides, game-day programs and game-note packets; writing news releases and stories; daily maintenance of www.DefianceAthletics.com; keeping statistics and performing other game-day tasks; creating and posting social media content; and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic Communications. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in journalism, communication, public relations, sport management, or a related field. Candidates must have strong organizational, writing, and communication skills. Applicants with previous experience in a sports information department and a working knowledge of PrestoSports, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, NCAA Live Stats, and Stat Crew will receive top consideration. Additional desired skills include technical knowledge of audio and visual equipment, photography, and graphic design. Applicants must be able to travel and adjust to a flexible work schedule requiring evening and weekend work. This is a full-time, 10-month position (August 1-May 31).

Campus Safety Officer

Defiance College seeks applications for part-time Campus Safety Officers. Reporting to the Director of Campus Safety, Campus Safety Officers are responsible for the security and safety of the campus and enforcing all college rules and regulations. Duties include: patrolling campus buildings and grounds; responding to reports of security/safety violations, fire alarms, emergency situations, unusual occurrences, etc.; monitoring parking and issuing tickets for violations; completing daily security log; support the needs of the campus community by being available and responsive to safety/security concerns; etc. Campus Safety Officers must be customer-service oriented, maintain a professional appearance, and maintain a professional relationship with local law enforcement agencies. The current need is for Saturday and Sunday coverage from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the potential for additional hours during the week or weekends for 2nd or 3rd shift as back-up coverage. Candidates must have the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job and be able to handle difficult situations with professionalism and diplomacy. A high school degree or equivalent is required and previous experience in law enforcement or security is desired. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license and be at least 21 years of age.
