Taking a stand for kids in need at 8th annual dance marathon

April 12, 2016

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The spring Buzzathon, hosted by Defiance College’s Dance Marathon, will be held on Saturday, April 23, from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Karl H. Weaner Center. The Buzzathon is a fun-filled night where DC students and other participants stay on their feet to raise money for children with terminal illnesses.

“Buzzathon” is the new name for Dance Marathon’s end of semester event. This year, the dance theme will be Disney/Pixar. Dance Marathon raises money throughout the year at events such as bake sales, sporting events, the Christmas Carnival, Mr. & Mrs. DC, and at the Buzzathon. All proceeds from the fundraising campaign go to the Children’s Miracle Network.

From now through the day of the event, dance marathon members will create wish bracelets for children at the hospital for a $1 donation per bracelet.

The goal of the Buzzathon is to avoid sitting for twelve hours as tribute to sick children who are unable to take a break from their illnesses. The public is welcome to attend and support participants in the charity event. Community members are not required to stay the entire 12 hours. There is a $10 entrance fee and any additional donations are welcome. The fundraising goal for the event is $5,000.

Donations may be sent to:

A variety of entertainment will be provided during the marathon, including DJs, inflatables, and a “morale dance” to keep spirits up during the long hours participants are on their feet. Carnival games can be played with spare change as a fun way to raise money for the event. Food and drinks will be provided at the marathon.

Miracle Stories by children and their families across the nation who have been affected by illnesses will be shared during the event. Several Miracle Families will also be present to tell their stories. This will provide the Defiance College community the opportunity to connect with children they are helping.
