ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF BUSINESS

We are at an exciting crossroads and searching for a dynamic and innovative individual to contribute to a redesigned undergraduate and graduate program in Business. There is opportunity to lead the applied experiences program.

Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load involving undergraduate and graduate courses in business administration and management; academic advising; curriculum development; accreditation compliance; committee work; and service to the college.

The successful candidate must be ABD or have a completed doctorate in business (PhD or DBA) or related field. Rank is Assistant or Associate Professor for a completed doctorate and Instructor for ABD and less than three years of college teaching experience. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of contemporary issues in business environments, international experience, understanding of business start-up and turnaround, and ability to outreach with professionals in the field.

 

 

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF MARKETING

Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load involving undergraduate courses in Marketing; academic advising; curriculum development; accreditation compliance; committee work; and service to the college.

For a tenure-track position and the rank of Assistant Professor, the candidate must have a doctoral degree in business (PhD or DBA) or related field (rank is instructor for ABD and less than three years of college teaching experience). For a non-tenure-track position and the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice, the candidate would need a master’s degree in business or related field and either three years of college teaching experience or three years of full-time experience in the field, and would not need a doctoral degree. We are looking for an individual interested in helping to enrich the current program and making connections for students with professional accounting communities. Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load that focuses on courses in the accounting major but also includes courses in the undergraduate and graduate business curriculum; academic advising; accreditation compliance, curriculum development; committee work; and service to the college.

The successful candidate must have a master’s degree in a business-related field. For a non-tenure-track position and the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice, the candidate must have a CPA; three years of college teaching experience or three years of full-time experience in the field; and would not need a doctoral degree. For a tenure-track position and the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, the candidate must have a doctoral degree (rank is Instructor for ABD and less than three years of college teaching experience). Preference will be given to candidates with a record of successful accounting work experience and a CPA.

 
 
 
 

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF SOCIAL WORK

Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load that focuses on a variety of Social Work courses including direct and group practice and policy. Program responsibilities also require advising the student organization and participating in program events. The position also includes academic advising; curriculum development; committee work; and service to the college. Opportunity to assume Program Director position exists.

Required is two years of post-masters practice experience. For a tenure-track position and the rank of Assistant Professor, the candidate must have a doctoral degree (rank is Instructor for ABD and less than three years of college teaching experience). For a non-tenure-track position and the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice, the candidate would need either three years of college teaching experience or three years of full-time experience in the field, and would not need a doctoral degree. Preference will be given to candidates with a doctorate (DSW or PhD) and with interests and experience in international social work.

Graduate Assistant – Music Programs

Defiance College seeks qualified applicants to serve as a graduate assistant for the music programs, including both choral and instrumental. The individual will focus primarily on the recruitment of prospective high school students to participate in Music Programs. Responsibilities will also include recruiting current DC students into the DC Music Programs, assisting music ensembles, developing and maintaining inventory of music and equipment, assisting with Music Programs events, and other duties assigned by the Director of Music Programs.

This is a two-year assistantship with a start date of August 1, 2014. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and have a strong musical background. Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education.  Keyboarding skills are desirable as is familiarity with wind ensemble and band music repertoire. Applicants with previous experience in music education will receive top consideration. Graduate Assistant – Learning Commons

Defiance College is seeking a Graduate Assistant for the Learning Commons. The Learning Commons, located in the Pilgrim Library, is part of Student Academic Support Services (SASS). Services and programs provided by SASS are designed to engage students in developing effective learning strategies and skills for a successful transition to college and for academic success throughout their college career and beyond. The Learning Commons is an integral component of SASS and provides a full complement of support services to strengthen academic skills, including tutoring, supplemental instruction, study & writing skill workshops, and writing consultation for all students. Our staff has a strong understanding of the content material and study skill development and is committed to helping students succeed.

Reporting to the Director of Student Academic Support Services, the graduate assistant will assist with administrative duties related to the Learning Commons. The individual will be responsible for providing assistance in the selection, training, and assignment of tutors and duties will include preparing and conducting learning support workshops, scheduling clients, and creating marketing material. The assistant will also maintain statistics and databases related to usage of services. The successful candidate must possess a strong academic record and have set academic excellence as a priority. Knowledge of college student/adult development; learning assistance programs; learning preference variations; and tutoring, teaching, learning, and collaboration techniques are necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is a must.

Graduate Assistant – Library

Defiance College is seeking an individual to serve as a Graduate Assistant in the Pilgrim Library.  Reporting to the Library Director, the Library Graduate Assistant will assist in the day-to-day operation of the Library.  Primary responsibilities include staffing the circulation desk and answering patron questions, assisting with library instruction, administering undergraduate testing, and helping with other projects as needed.  Duties may include assisting with data collection and analysis for research projects, teaching library orientations and workshops, creating and/or updating online library resources and materials.

The successful candidate must possess strong research, organizational, and customer service skills; have a thorough knowledge of technologies; and be able to quickly learn new systems and tools.

Defiance College, an NCAA D-III institution and member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference located in Northwest Ohio, seeks qualified applicants to serve as assistant to the Sports Information Director. The individual will assist with coordination of publicity and media relations and promotion of the College’s 22 intercollegiate sports programs. Graduate Assistant – Resident Advisor for College-Age Students with Autism

Defiance College is seeking individuals to serve as Graduate Assistant Resident Advisors for Defiance College's ASD Affinity Program, which enrolls college-age students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The positions provide supervision and instruction to students with ASD in a living-learning residential hall.

Responsibilities include providing direct supervision for students in the ASD Affinity program in the residence hall; collecting data on students' academic, social, and residential performance; promoting skill generalization and instructional intervention to teach appropriate social and independent living skills; and communicating with the program coordinator and peer mentors regarding student performance and progress. The resident advisor is required to live on campus in the Jacket Suites (where students in the ASD Affinity Program will be housed).

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree, exhibit strong interpersonal skills, and be able to relate well with a variety of individuals. Preference will be given to candidates with experience with individuals with autism spectrum disorder, and experience in supervisory or case management roles is desirable.

Graduate Assistant – Admissions Recruiter

Defiance College is seeking individuals to serve as a Graduate Assistant in the Office of Admissions. The Graduate Assistant's main responsibility will be administering a planned program of recruitment activities, and/or assisting with various high school and college fair visits. Other duties could include coordinating the College's student hospitality visit program.

Recruiting activities include developing relationships with prospective-student referral agents, assisting in the identification of prospective students, meeting with campus visitors, and follow-up communication. Ideal candidates will have the ability to speak with families one-on-one or in large group settings and be able to communicate effectively via e-mail and via phone. Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree and have a welcoming personality, excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to relate well with a variety of individuals, and good knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office programs.
