FACULTY POSITIONS


ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF BUSINESS
Defiance College invites applications and nominations for two full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professors of Business. Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load that focuses on a variety of courses that include introductory and advanced courses. Area of specialization open but preference will be given to management and marketing applicants. Supervision of internships is expected. This faculty member may also provide instructional support in the program areas of Communication, Criminal Justice, and Sport Management. The position also includes academic advising, assisting with program leadership and curriculum development, committee work, and service to the college. The college is accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education.

The successful candidate must have a completed doctorate in a field pertinent to Business; ABD will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong teaching record, innovative ideas for course development and pedagogy, and a willingness to help students apply their work both inside and outside the classroom in creative ways.

COMPUTER SCIENCE FACULTY POSITION
Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time Computer Science faculty member who is interested in an exciting opportunity to develop a Computer Science companion program to our existing Digital Forensic Science Program. Responsibilities for this position include a 24-credit per year teaching load; academic advising; committee work; and service to the college and the wider community. Computer Science faculty will be teamed with experienced Digital Forensic Science faculty and the position will involve significant cross-training. Successful candidates should be versatile, adaptable, prepared to learn while teaching, and have a healthy curiosity about the Digital Forensic Science field as well as their own.

Preferred candidates will have a terminal degree in computer science or related field or ABD status; candidates with a master’s degree will be considered. Rank and tenure track consideration is commensurate with education and experience. Preference will be given to candidates with significant real-world software solution experience and higher education teaching experience.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF EXERCISE SCIENCE
Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Exercise Science. Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load that focuses on a variety of courses that may include Biomechanics & Kinesiology, Fitness and Wellness Programming, Introduction to Exercise Science, Coaching and Sport Leadership, Organization and Administration, and supervision of internships and field experiences. This faculty member may also provide instructional support in the program areas of Athletic Training and Sport Management. The position also includes academic advising; assisting with program leadership and curriculum development; committee work; and service to the college.

VISITING SCHOLAR IN RELIGIOUS STUDIES

The Charles K. and Esther C. Krieger Visiting Scholars Program at Defiance College invites applications for a Visiting Scholar in Religious Studies for Spring 2018 and AY 2018-2019 with a January 2018 start. The Visiting Scholar will teach three courses per semester in religious studies, including courses in the scholar’s area of interest and the first year seminar Global Issues. The Visiting Scholar will also coordinate a series on interfaith dialogue and understanding, engage in research benefitting students and society, and prepare an annual report of activities which will be due to the foundation. Additionally, in spring 2019 the Visiting Scholar may supervise a trip to Israel through Defiance College’s McMaster School for Advancing Humanity.

The position provides an annual salary of $44,000 with room and board, plus health benefit eligibility. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in Religion or Religious Studies or other relevant field with an emphasis on one of the three Abrahamic traditions such as Jewish Studies, Islamic Studies, or Christian Studies. An advanced ABD candidate will also be considered.

PART-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS 

TEACHER EDUCATION CLINICAL SUPERVISORS
The Defiance College Teacher Education program is seeking part-time Clinical Supervisors for Teacher Education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences in the Fall and Spring, and 15-week Internships in the Spring. Our Licensure areas include Early and Middle Childhood Education, Adolescent and Young Adult (core content areas), Intervention Specialist Mild-to-Moderate (K-12), and Health and Physical Education (Pre-K-12). Clinical Supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a Master’s Degree in Education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. PART-TIME INSTRUCTORS

INSTRUCTORS FOR APPLIED MUSIC LESSONS
Defiance College is seeking applicants for anticipated instructional needs in applied music lessons for guitar, piano, and band and orchestral instruments. Instructors provide 12 lessons and a performance assessment. Candidates must be willing to recruit and build instrumental music studios and potentially small ensembles, based on department needs. Successful candidates are encouraged to develop a private studio from area secondary schools while using the college facilities and marketing. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or other related field. ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH
Defiance College, an NCAA D-III institution and member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) located in northwest Ohio, seeks an Assistant Football Coach with a strong background in strength and conditioning. The individual will assist the head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and development and will support the planning and directing of all functions of the football program. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to strength & conditioning, overall student-athlete instruction, coaching, recruiting and on-campus visit planning, game and practice planning, budget management, fundraising and student-athlete performance.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the mission of Defiance College, as well as adherence to institutional, HCAC, and NCAA policies and procedures.

A bachelor’s degree, previous coaching experience, and a valid driver’s license are required; master’s degree preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate strong communication skills, successful Division III recruiting experience, and the ability to be a positive role model for student-athletes. This is a full-time, 10-month position (August 1-May 31) with an immediate start date this first year. HEAD CHEER AND DANCE COACH
Defiance College, an NCAA Division III institution and member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference located in Northwest Ohio, invites applications for the position of Head Cheer and Dance Coach for a start-up program to begin competition in 2018-2019. Responsibilities will include all duties normally associated with being the head coach of an intercollegiate cheer and dance program including, but not limited to, recruiting, coaching, budget management, organization of training, practices and competitions, academic monitoring and other duties as assigned.

Candidates must demonstrate significant knowledge of cheer and dance, proven success in coaching cheer and dance at the collegiate or high school level, the ability to recruit, develop and motivate Division III student-athletes, a strong commitment to the academic success of student-athletes, knowledge of and commitment to all NCAA, HCAC and institutional rules and regulations, good communication skills, and strong leadership. ASSISTANT WOMEN'S SOCCER COACH
Defiance College, an NCAA D-III institution and member of the HCAC, is seeking an individual to serve as Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach. Under the direction of the Head Coach, responsibilities will include coaching, recruiting, fund raising, strength & conditioning, developing annual service/engagement projects for student-athletes, practice planning and preparation, scheduling, assisting head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and evaluation, academic monitoring, and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the mission of Defiance College, as well as adherence to institutional, Heartland Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures. A bachelor’s degree, previous collegiate coaching and recruiting experience, and a valid driver’s license are required; master’s degree preferred. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF MUSIC PROGRAMS
Defiance College has an immediate opening for an energetic and creative music professional to serve as the Assistant Director of Music Programs. Reporting to the Director of Music Programs, the individual will have direct responsibility for conducting and leading the College’s Yellow Jacket Band, Pep Band and other instrumental music ensembles.

The Assistant Director will teach at least one three-credit hour Music course per academic year; be heavily involved in new student recruitment; supervise part-time instructors for marching season as well as students and other part-time employees as programs dictate; and have responsibility for the management and inventory control of instrumental music equipment, including College-owned instruments, rented instruments, uniforms, auxiliary, etc.  Additional responsibilities may include: music director duties for the Defiance College Community Band (a 60+ member wind ensemble); support for the Black Swamp Symphony Orchestra; teaching applied music lessons; and the development of potential new music ensembles.

The successful candidate for this a full-time, 10-month administrative appointment (August – May each year) must have a Master’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field such as instrumental conducting and performance. Candidate must be willing and able to travel on occasion. Leadership experience with marching band programs preferred (director or assistant director, etc.).
