Assistant Professor of Communication Studies
Defiance College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor of Communication Studies. Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching/administrative load in a variety of courses in the communication studies major; academic advising; curriculum development; scholarship leading to conference presentations and publication; and service to the college.
The successful candidate will have a completed doctorate in communications or related field for the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates with ABD status will be considered but at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice or Instructor. We seek a critical and/or rhetorical scholar with interests in public/political communication, media, or the intersection of both. Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience in higher education, with debate teams, and aspects of media production.

Part-Time Instructors – Applied Music Lessons

Defiance College is seeking part-time instructors for anticipated needs in applied music lessons. The anticipated needs include Guitar, Viola, High Brass, and Low Brass. Instructors provide 12 lessons and a performance assessment. Candidates must be willing to recruit and build instrumental music studios and potentially small ensembles, based on department needs. Successful candidates are encouraged to develop a private studio from area secondary schools while using the college facilities and marketing. Candidates must hold a valid music credential and Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in performance or a performance certificate preferred. Defiance College Music Programs serves students through a variety of vocal and instrumental ensembles. Music ensembles involve students in cooperative learning environments developing aural, communication, and leadership skills. Successful candidates must be accepted into the Defiance College graduate program in Education or Business and will be awarded a full graduate school tuition scholarship covering a maximum of 36 credit hours. Additionally, a tuition waiver of up to 9 credit hours will be applied toward any pre-requisite courses which may be needed for the MBA program, provided they are taken at Defiance College. Compensation includes salary, College-provided housing, and a meal plan on campus when meals are served to students during the academic year.
GRADUATE ASSISTANT - FOOTBALL
Defiance College, an NCAA D-III institution located in Northwest Ohio, seeks qualified applicants for a football graduate assistant coaching position. Responsibilities include coaching; all aspects of recruiting; assisting with film breakdown; game and practice preparation, including video cut-ups; serving as an assistant for equipment; assisting head coach in other duties as requested; and other administrative duties as assigned. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and have previous collegiate football playing or coaching experience.
GRADUATE ASSISTANT - STUDENT ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES
Defiance College seeks qualified applicants for an anticipated opening for an individual to serve as Graduate Assistant within Student Academic Support Services. Student Academic Support Services (SASS) supports the educational mission of Defiance College by providing academic services to students in a hospitable and positive atmosphere where personal growth and academic improvement are nurtured, long-term success is supported, and learning is the priority. Services and programs provided include tutoring, supplemental instruction, and writing services, and are designed to engage students in developing effective learning strategies and skills for a successful transition to college and for academic success throughout their college career and beyond.
The Graduate Assistant will serve as an assistant to the Director of Student Academic Support Services and assist with administrative duties related to academic support services. The individual is responsible for providing assistance in the selection, training, and assignment of tutors. Duties include administering surveys and assessment for SASS services, communicating with coaches and/or faculty to meet the needs of students, scheduling both participants/clients and student workers, leading study skill workshops, creating marketing materials, and entering data as well as compiling semester and yearly statistics.
The successful candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree, possess a strong academic record, and have set academic excellence as a priority. Knowledge of college student/adult development; learning assistance programs; learning style variations; student-athlete demands; and tutoring, teaching, learning, and collaboration techniques are necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel, and Publisher is a must.
GRADUATE ASSISTANT - SPORTS INFORMATION DIRECTOR
Defiance College, an NCAA D-III institution and member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference located in Northwest Ohio, seeks qualified applicants for an anticipated opening for a graduate assistant to the Sports Information Director. The individual will assist with coordination of publicity and media relations and promotion of the College’s 16 intercollegiate sports programs. Primary responsibilities will include layout and design of media guides, game-day programs and game note packets; writing press releases; daily maintenance of www.DefianceAthletics.com; keeping statistics and performing other game day tasks; and other duties as assigned by the Sports Information Director.
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and have strong organizational, writing,
and communication skills. Applicants with previous experience in a sports information
department and a working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Stat Crew
will receive top consideration. Applicants must be able to adjust to a flexible work
schedule requiring evening and weekend work.

GRADUATE ASSISTANT - INTRAMURALS
Defiance College seeks an individual to serve as Graduate Assistant for Intramurals within the Office of Student Life. Reporting to the Director of Student Activities & Leadership, the individual will be responsible for coordinating and planning the day-to day operations of a comprehensive intramural sports program which supports and encourages the concept of student leadership and development. The individual will support the activities and events of the Office of Student Activities & Leadership Duties with primary duties and responsibilities that include: coordinating and scheduling all intramural sports activities, events, and tournaments; hiring, training, and scheduling of officials and other student workers; policy development and enforcement; facility reservations; program promotion; participant registration; inventory and requisition of equipment and supplies; and program assessment.
The successful candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree, have knowledge of and/or have participated in a wide variety of sports and recreational activities, and demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills; previous intramural participation, officiating, and/or tournament experience is desirable.
