Assistant Professor of Forensic Science

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Forensic Science with extensive background in criminal laboratory investigation procedures to commence Fall 2016. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise and leadership within a forensic science setting (or settings) and be able to provide instruction in forensic chemistry, forensic laboratory sessions, and forensic science content courses as well as oversee experiential learning opportunities for forensic science students. Responsibilities include a 24-credit teaching/administrative load; academic advising; curriculum development; instrument maintenance; committee work; and service to the college. The individual will have the responsibility of refining, overseeing and growing the forensic science program. There is significant curricular overlap within Forensic Sciences and Molecular Biology program as well as shared instrumental facilities.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Forensic Science or a related field for the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates with a master degree (or ABD status) and at least three years of extensive forensic science laboratory or related professional experience combined will be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice. Preference will be given to candidates with excellent theoretical understanding and practical expertise with advanced instrumentation used in a forensic laboratory (e.g., advanced methods of spectroscopic analysis, GC/MS, HPLC, advanced microscopy, molecular biological analysis).

Assistant Professor of Design

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for an anticipated opening for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Design to commence Fall 2016. The Design program at Defiance College is a new program which houses two tracks: 2D Design (Graphic Design) and 3D Design (Product Design). Students study in both tracks to broaden their skills and gain exposure to the expanding landscape of art and design. After choosing a track, students explore and refine their thinking and making techniques.

Duties include a 24-credit per year teaching load involving graphic design (print and web formats), digital photography, and foundation courses in 2D and 3D design. Responsibilities will also include academic advising, curriculum development, equipment maintenance, and involvement in committee and college service.

The successful candidate must have an MFA or other terminal degree in Graphic Design, Package Design, Photography, or other relevant area; ABD will be considered but rank would be Instructor. College teaching experience, including the ability to teach a wide variety of undergraduate courses, and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is required. Additional desirable candidate attributes include: a demonstrated record of creative work; expertise in digital photography, with an emphasis on portfolio preparation and product photography; experience designing creative packaging for consumer goods; and understanding of materials and manufacturing processes in package design.

Digital Forensic Science Full-Time Faculty Position

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a Digital Forensic Science faculty member. Responsibilities for this full-time position include a 24-credit per year teaching load involving undergraduate courses in digital forensic science; academic advising; curriculum development; committee work; and service to the college and the wider community. DFS faculty routinely interact with law enforcement and private sector digital forensic practitioners to develop and share best practices for the forensic examination of emerging technologies.

Candidates must have a master’s or doctoral degree in information technology, digital forensics, computer engineering, cybersecurity, information assurance, or related field. Rank and tenure track consideration is commensurate with education and experience. Preference will be given to candidates with significant digital forensics or cybersecurity work experience, teaching experience, or a law enforcement background.

Assistant Professor of Psychology

Defiance College invites applications and nominations for an anticipated opening for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Psychology to commence Fall 2016. Duties include a 24-credit per year teaching load in a wide variety of undergraduate courses to psychology majors and students in other disciplines including Social Work, Criminal Justice, and Education. Responsibilities will also include using up-to-date teaching strategies that focus on student engagement and service learning, academic advising, and involvement in committee and college service.

The successful candidate must have a completed doctorate in Psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D) for the rank of Assistant Professor; ABD will be considered but rank would be Instructor. College teaching experience and the ability to teach a wide variety of undergraduate courses is required. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in clinical psychology.

ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

 

Administrative Assistant, Academic Affairs

Defiance College seeks a part-time Administrative Assistant for the Office of Academic Affairs with an employment start date of August 15. The individual will report to the Chief Academic Officer and will provide secretarial and administrative support for faculty and externally-accredited academic programs.

Responsibilities of this part-time, 9-month position include preparing and managing correspondence and reports, implementing and maintaining office systems and databases, organizing and maintaining records for accreditation, taking meeting minutes, providing organizational and logistical support for events and activities, and other support duties as assigned. The individual must be able to maintain thorough and accurate records; work cooperatively with a diverse group of individuals; and possess excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in MSOffice and the ability to prioritize tasks and multitask critical to the position. High school diploma required; Associate degree and office experience are preferred.

Director of Music Programs

The Director of Music Programs will be responsible for developing, leading, and delivering a variety of music performance experiences for students at the College. Through leadership and direction of various music ensembles, the Director will facilitate a campus atmosphere that promotes the learning and growth of individual students as they develop and express their musical talents. Responsibilities will include: conduct/direct various vocal and instrumental groups and ensembles; support of musical theater productions; promotion of music programming to prospective students; assisting the Admissions Office with recruiting efforts; delivery of private voice lessons to students; teaching music for academic credit; assisting in the presentation of music at campus events such as graduation, convocation, etc.; and assisting in cultivating donor support for fine arts at the College. The individual must be willing to adjust to a flexible work schedule, which will include some evenings and some weekends. This is a full-time 10-month position from August 1 to May 31.

Master’s degree in some music field and a Bachelor’s degree in music education, music performance, conducting, or some related field is required. This individual must be capable of leading, rehearsing, and conducting individuals and musical ensembles for public performances of music; have enough experience and background in vocal music performance in order to provide appropriate voice lessons for college students of varying abilities; some familiarity with traditional wind, brass, and percussion instruments to support the development and performance of these students; and have sufficient piano and keyboard skills to rehearse a choir or teach voice lessons, although an accompanist will be available for performances and some rehearsals.

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS

The following are two-year assistantships with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2016. Successful candidates must be accepted into the Defiance College Master of Business Administration program and will be awarded a full graduate school tuition scholarship covering a maximum of 36 credit hours. Additionally, a tuition waiver of up to 9 credit hours will be applied toward any pre-requisite courses which may be needed for the MBA program, provided they are taken at Defiance College. Compensation includes stipend, college-provided housing, and a meal plan on campus when meals are served to students during the academic year.

GRADUATE ASSISTANT – SPORTS INFORMATION DIRECTOR (one opening)
The graduate assistant will assist with coordination of publicity and media relations and promotion of the College’s 19 intercollegiate sports programs. Primary responsibilities will include layout and design of media guides, game-day programs and game note packets; writing press releases; daily maintenance of www.DefianceAthletics.com; keeping statistics and performing other game day tasks; and other duties as assigned by the Sports Information Director. GRADUATE ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER (one opening)
Defiance College, an NCAA Division III institution affiliated with the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and sponsor of 19 intercollegiate athletic teams, seeks applicants for two anticipated openings for Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers. This is a joint endeavor with Mercy Defiance Clinic that will allow the individual an opportunity to acquire a broad range of experiences. At the College, the graduate assistant will assist the Head Athletic Trainer with coverage of athletic teams and assist with administrative duties related to the Athletic Training Education Program. Specific assignments will include supervision of athletic training students on the field, in the training room, and at local high school events. The individual will also work within the Mercy Defiance Clinic assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with high school coverage, bump clinic coverage and other administrative tasks. Other responsibilities at the Mercy Defiance Clinic include assisting the Director of Physical Therapy in providing patient care in the clinic setting, and promoting the Mercy Defiance Clinic Sports Medicine program through marketing / public relations events.
