PART-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS

Part-Time Instructors

Defiance College is often in need of qualified individuals for our part-time faculty pool. Format of classes is generally face-to-face and content areas of need vary from semester to semester. Part-time faculty are responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear directives, and timely and helpful feedback. Applicants must hold a master's degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a relevant field and professional or teaching experience is desirable.

Teacher Education Clinical Supervisors

The Teacher Education program is seeking part-time clinical supervisors for teacher education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences and in 15-week student teaching experiences for the fall and spring semesters. Our licensure areas include early and middle childhood education, adolescent and young adult (core content areas), and intervention specialist mild-to-moderate (K-12). Clinical supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a master's degree in education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

 

Veteran, Transfer, Adult and Commuter Student Support Coordinator

Defiance College seeks an individual to serve as the Veteran, Transfer, Adult and Commuter Student Support Coordinator reporting to the Assistant Dean of Campus Wellness. Responsibilities will include: serve as an ombudsman for veteran, transfer, commuter, and adult students; plan and implement programs and support services that enhance student success with a focus on student retention; assist with the Success@DC early alert system; serve on the CARE team (behavioral intervention); meet with prospective veteran, transfer, and adult students and assist with recruitment efforts for this student population; participate in student orientations and other events; assess the effectiveness of support strategies, provide data and reports, and revise as necessary. Must possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills and be able to interact effectively with all constituents in a helpful and positive manner.

Bachelor’s degree required and previous experience working with adults in an educational setting is desirable. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends. Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach

Defiance College, an NAIA institution and member of the WHAC, seeks applications for an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. Under the direction of the Head Coach, responsibilities will include coaching, recruiting, fund raising, strength & conditioning, developing annual service/engagement projects for student-athletes, practice planning and preparation, scheduling, assisting head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and evaluation, academic monitoring, and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the mission of Defiance College, as well as adherence to institutional, NAIA, and WHAC policies and procedures.

A bachelor’s degree, previous collegiate coaching and recruiting experience, and a valid driver’s license are required; master’s degree preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate strong communication skills, successful recruiting experience, and the ability to lead and serve our student-athletes.

Administrative Assistant, Academic Affairs & Title III Grant Project

Defiance College invites applications for an Administrative Assistant. The individual will support the Title III Grant Project and faculty for the externally-accredited nursing and social work programs. Reporting to the Title III Project Director, the assistant will provide day-to-day administrative support to the Project Director and Activity Leaders of a federal Title III grant.  Responsibilities will include coordinating, monitoring, and providing support for the implementation of project tasks; managing and monitoring the grant budget and ensuring compliance with grant regulations; maintaining appropriate records and preparing various reports; and other administrative and grant-related duties. Responsibilities for the accredited programs will include preparing and managing correspondence and reports, implementing and maintaining office systems and databases, organizing and maintaining records for accreditation, taking meeting minutes, providing organizational and logistical support for events and activities, and other support duties as assigned.

A high school diploma and prior experience as an administrative assistant is required; experience in project management and higher education is desirable.  Applicants must be proficient in MS Office, have excellent communication and organizational skills; be attentive to detail and able to maintain accurate records; and demonstrate a high level of teamwork/cooperation, initiative, and customer service.

This position is being funded partially through a 5-year grant and will require full-time work from mid-August through mid-May and part-time work (approximately 20 hours per week) during the summer months. Campus Safety Officer

Defiance College seeks applications for Campus Safety Officer positions. Reporting to the Director of Campus Safety, Campus Safety Officers are responsible for the security and safety of the campus and enforcing all college rules and regulations. Duties include: patrolling campus buildings and grounds; responding to reports of security/safety violations, fire alarms, emergency situations, unusual occurrences, etc.; monitoring parking and issuing tickets for violations; completing daily security log; support the needs of the campus community by being available and responsive to safety/security concerns; etc.

Campus Safety Officers must be customer-service oriented, maintain a professional appearance, maintain a professional relationship with local law enforcement agencies, and be willing to adjust to a flexible work schedule which may include 2nd or 3rd shift and weekend duty. Candidates must have the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job and be able to handle difficult situations with professionalism and diplomacy.

A high school degree or equivalent is required and previous experience in law enforcement or security is desired. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license and be at least 21 years of age. Graduate Assistant – Testing Proctor 

Defiance College is seeking a Graduate Assistant Testing Proctor. Reporting to the Director of Academic Technology & Online Learning, the Testing Proctor performs a wide range of duties before, during, and after an exam, and is accountable for all aspects of the testing process and the security of the test materials. The individual will proctor make-up exams and PearsonVue professional certification exams. Responsibilities will include checking the schedule and exam requirements; ensuring the computers are working properly; explaining test procedures and rules; and monitoring students during the test period. 

The successful candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a professional demeanor, and the ability to diplomatically consult with students and faculty regarding testing-related educational and security issues. The individual must have technical skills to learn and use the online systems and office technology required for this position. 

This is a two-year assistantship with a start date of August 1, 2024. Applicants must be accepted into the Defiance College graduate program in Education (MAE) or Business (MBA) and will be awarded a full graduate-school tuition scholarship covering a maximum of 36 credit hours. The graduate program being sought must not require a PearsonVue examination for licensure/certification upon completion. Applicants pursuing a graduate degree in Education must hold a teaching license to be eligible for the Defiance College MAE program. Compensation includes salary, College-provided housing, and a meal plan on campus when meals are served to students during the academic year.
