FACULTY POSITIONS

Assistant Professor of Psychology
Defiance College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology. Responsibilities include a 12-credit per semester teaching load, student advising, committee work, and continuing professional development. Applicants should be committed to mentoring undergraduate research and have a plan for including undergraduates in their research initiatives.

The successful candidate should have completed a PhD program in Clinical, Cognitive, or Counseling Psychology; ABD will be considered. Candidates must be willing to teach across subfields in a variety of courses, such as Introductory Psychology, Memory and Cognition, Research Methods, Neuroscience, Abnormal Psychology, Clinical/Counseling Psychology, History and Systems, Personality Theories and selected topics courses in their area of expertise.

Assistant Professor of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Defiance College invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a scholar with areas of expertise in broadly identified areas of identity including but not limited to class, gender, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, age, and abilities. The faculty member will teach three courses per semester; including two current offerings of cultural diversity and world issues. Other courses in the scholar’s area of interest will be offered. The faculty member will coordinate efforts led by the President’s Office and work closely with the Chief Diversity Officer for a one course release each term for programming. 

The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. specializing in a field of study focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion with the field open for consideration with particular interests in sociology, social work, history, or political science. ABD’s will not be considered unless the degree is completed by August 2022.

Assistant Professor of Digital Media
Defiance College invites applications for a tenure track position in the Department of Communication Arts specializing in digital media production in the following areas:  video production, social media, media writing, video editing. Experience with commercial production or podcasting welcome. This program is intended to teach students to use technology to communicate through various media. The teaching load is 4-4 each term.  The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. or MFA; advanced ABD’s will be considered.

Assistant Professor of Constitutional Studies
Defiance College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Constitutional Studies supported by the endowment by the McMaster Family. The faculty member will teach three courses per semester including constitutional law, legal issues and introductory courses.  Additional duties include serving as the pre-law advisor, programming for Constitution Day each September and the year-long dialogue series called “Constitutional Conversations.”  Candidates with backgrounds and interest in developing a mock trial or Model UN/Model Arab League debate team are strongly urged to apply.

The successful applicant will hold a JD or Ph.D. specializing in legal and constitutional studies; advanced ABD’s will be considered. Additional experience in political science or criminal justice is desired.

Assistant Professor of Sport Management
Defiance College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track professor to teach Sport Management undergraduate courses on campus and potentially graduate courses on-line. Areas of expertise sought to help students learn include: Sport Sociology, Event & Facility Management in Sport, Sport Leadership, Sport Fundraising, and other areas to help propel students successfully into the sport industry. Sport Management is among the largest majors on campus and students leave Defiance College with experiential knowledge that readies them for the sport industry. Faculty teach a 4-4 load each year. 

A Ph.D. in Sport Administration or a related field is required; advanced ABD’s will be considered. Applicants must be willing to participate in administrative duties, including work on campus committees, with sport management student and alumni clubs, student advising, and other duties as assigned.

Assistant Professor of Accounting
Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Accounting. Responsibilities include a 12-credit per semester teaching load that focuses on a variety of courses that include introductory and advanced courses. Supervision of internships is expected.  Defiance College is accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education. 

Preferred candidates will have a terminal degree or advanced ABD status in Accounting or Business; a CPA is required.  Candidates with a master’s degree will be considered only with significant professional experience in accounting.  Rank and tenure track consideration is commensurate with education and experience. Preference will be given to candidates with significant practical real-world experience with accounting and business coupled with higher education teaching experience.

Assistant Professor of Physics
Defiance College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Physics. Teaching responsibilities include introductory level courses in Physics (Calculus and non-Calculus based) and in the applicant’s area of expertise for General Science and Engineering Students.

Candidates with experience teaching college physics are desirable. The successful candidate must be a committed educator with previous teaching experience in higher education with evidence of effectiveness in teaching; the desire to develop an undergraduate research program; and the ability to be enthusiastic about working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. Experience and commitment to excellence in mentoring undergraduates in engineering programs will be valued. Familiarity with new technology and a willingness to incorporate technology into the classroom and laboratory are strongly desired. The successful candidate must also be open to incorporating diverse teaching strategies into the classroom that will enhance student success.

Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity
Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time faculty member in cybersecurity.  This major will complement and expand the existing Cyber-Forensic and Computer Science programs. Responsibilities for this position include a 24-credit per year teaching load; academic advising; committee work; and service to the college and the wider community.  A successful candidate will bring experience in the field of cybersecurity and a collaborative spirit as the position involves significant teamwork in the partner programs. 

Preferred candidates will have a terminal degree or advanced ABD status in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Cyber-Forensics, or related field.  Candidates with a master’s degree will be considered only with significant professional experience in cybersecurity. Rank and tenure track consideration is commensurate with education and experience. Preference will be given to candidates with significant practical real-world experience with cybersecurity, information assurance, and incident response, coupled with higher education teaching experience.

Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Defiance College is currently seeking applicants for a tenure-track position in Mathematics. Candidates who are able to develop working relationships with diverse students and have a record of effective teaching will be given priority. Experience incorporating technology in the learning experience is preferred. A teaching load of 12 hours per semester will include a variety of applied courses, calculus and an introductory course. The successful candidate will provide advising for students interested in pursuing an engineering degree.

Candidates should have a terminal degree in Mathematics, preferably in an area of or experience in Applied Mathematics.

Assistant Professor of Teacher Education
Defiance College Teacher Education is accepting applications for two full-time, tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. While successful candidates should have demonstrated ability to teach diverse undergraduate and graduate course offerings, preference will be given to candidates with an earned doctorate in Mathematics Education, Special Education, and P-12 Administration; advanced ABD will be considered.

The faculty members will engage in a private, liberal arts environment with an emphasis on teaching, advising, and service. Within the Teacher Education Program, additional responsibilities include supervision of candidates in practicum and student teaching experiences and supporting the growth of teacher education programming. Ideal candidates will have three or more years of P-12 teaching/administration, experience in college level and online instruction, good interpersonal skills with an emphasis on the importance of collaboration, and a philosophy that aligns with the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion.  Teaching load is 12 credit hours per term.

Assistant Professor of Communication Studies
Defiance College invites applications for an opening for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor of Communication Studies. Responsibilities include a 24-credit per year teaching load in a variety of courses in the Communication Studies major including Introduction to Human Communication each term, academic advising, curriculum development, scholarship and service to the college. 

The successful candidate must have a completed doctorate in Communication Studies or related field; advanced ABD will be considered. Area of specialty is open for consideration. Defiance College is often in need of qualified individuals for our part-time faculty pool. Format of classes is generally face-to-face and content areas of need vary from semester to semester. Part-time faculty are responsible for providing quality instruction to students through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear directives, and timely and helpful feedback. Applicants must hold a master's degree (Ph.D. preferred) in relevant field and professional or teaching experience desirable. INSTRUCTORS FOR APPLIED MUSIC LESSONS
Defiance College is seeking to build an applicant pool for anticipated instructional needs in applied music lessons for:

Woodwinds: flute, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone
Brass: trumpet, french horn, baritone, trombone, tuba
Strings: violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar

Instructors provide 14 lessons and a performance assessment per semester. Instructors will have the potential to build private studios and work with ensembles. The Music Program seeks candidates with an interest in working with students of all skill levels, as well as energy and drive to contribute to growing a small program. Candidates must hold a master's degree in music education, music performance, or other related field. COMMUNICATION STUDIES
Defiance College is seeking a part-time instructor to teach general communication courses and general media production courses. In the production course, students study the tools used to create digital media and practice skills important to production including high-definition photography, high-definition video shooting/editing, audio recording/editing, and linear and non-linear storytelling. A Master’s Degree or higher in communication or a related field is required and applicants must be willing to participate in the college assessment process. TEACHER EDUCATION CLINICAL SUPERVISORS
The Teacher Education program is seeking part-time clinical supervisors for teacher education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences and in 15-week student teaching experiences for the fall and spring semesters. Our licensure areas include early and middle childhood education, adolescent and young adult (core content areas), and intervention specialist mild-to-moderate (K-12). Clinical supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a master's degree in education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. ASSISTANT VOLLEYBALL COACH
Defiance College seeks an Assistant Volleyball Coach. Under the direction of the Head Coach, responsibilities will include coaching, recruiting, fund raising, strength & conditioning, developing annual service/engagement projects for student-athletes, practice planning and preparation, travel arrangements, assisting head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and evaluation, academic monitoring, and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the mission of Defiance College, as well as adherence to institutional, Heartland Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures. A bachelor’s degree, previous coaching experience, and a valid driver’s license are required; master’s preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with previous collegiate coaching experience who can demonstrate strong communication skills and successful Division III recruiting experience.

Assistant Football Coach
Defiance College seeks an Assistant Football Coach to assist primarily on the defensive side. The individual will assist the head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and development and will support the planning and directing of all functions of the football program. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to strength & conditioning, overall student-athlete instruction, coaching, recruiting and on-campus visit planning, game and practice planning, budget management, fundraising and student-athlete performance. The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the mission of Defiance College, as well as adherence to institutional, HCAC, and NCAA policies and procedures.

A bachelor’s degree, previous coaching experience, and a valid driver’s license are required; master’s degree preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate strong communication skills, successful Division III recruiting experience, and the ability to be a positive role model for student-athletes. This is a full-time, 10-month position (August 1-May 31) with an immediate start date this first year. Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field Coach
Defiance College seeks an individual to serve as assistant coach for the men’s and women’s track and field and cross country programs. The individual will provide organization and leadership for all phases of these programs and responsibilities will include recruiting, meet preparation, practice organization, fund raising, mentoring of student-athletes, managing the programs’ social media accounts, and developing annual service/engagement projects for student-athletes. The successful candidate must be able to establish positive relationships and effectively interact with a variety of individuals including alumni, parents, and recruits.

A bachelor’s degree, previous collegiate coaching and recruiting experience, and a valid unrestricted driver’s license are required.  A master’s degree, USATF or USTFCCCA coaching education certification, and ability to coach multi-events preferred. A working knowledge of recruiting databases and websites such as Frontrush and NSCA is desirable. This position requires some evening and weekend work combined with business hours and some recruiting travel.

ASSISTANT REGISTRAR
Defiance College seeks an individual to coordinate the administrative requirements and assist in all responsibilities key to the Registrar’s Office. The individual will work closely with the Registrar and responsibilities will include assisting with: academic scheduling, registration, program degree audits, degree evaluations, plans of studies, transfer credit evaluations, and veteran benefits. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who possesses critical thinking skills, has the ability to analyze information, and is familiar with automated information systems. The individual must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to respond professionally to sensitive situations. Competencies in data entry and detail accuracy are a must. A Bachelor’s Degree and previous experience in customer service or related professional field is required. Previous work experience at a higher education institution is desirable.
