Dec. 2 Christmas Carnival to fundraise on Defiance College campus

On Friday, Dec. 2, a student-run Christmas Carnival will be on the Defiance College campus to benefit the college's Dance Marathon project in support of the Toledo Children's Miracle Network. The carnival is open to the public and will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hive in Hubbard Hall.

Honorees announced for DC Hall of Fame, Coaches of the Year

Five Defiance College alumni were inducted in the Alumni Varsity D Hall of Fame during homecoming festivities on Saturday, Oct. 15. They included: James Bailey, Roswell, Ga.; Jason Lee, Zanesville, Ohio; Jodi Hybart, Defiance, Ohio; Mike Groll, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Roxane Kruse Kippen, Grand Rapids, Mich. For the first time, two teams were also inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame: the 1961 Baseball Team and the 1966 Football Team.

Defiance College receives national recognition for community service, engagement

Defiance College has again received national recognition for its leadership in community service and engagement with its inclusion in the 2015 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service. This is the ninth consecutive year that Defiance College has been honored.

Defiance College receives $15,000 ODHE grant

Defiance College will receive $15,000 in a grant award from the Ohio Department of Higher Education as part of the Transforming Campus Climate grants offered through the Changing Campus Culture initiative to all campuses in Ohio. The DC grant was one of nine awarded statewide and is the maximum amount granted by ODHE.

Defiance College receives U.S. News ranking in top tier of Midwest liberal arts colleges

Defiance College is once again listed among the top tier of liberal arts colleges in the Midwest in the 2017 edition of U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges. Defiance’s designation in the category of Midwest Regional Liberal Arts Colleges is three spots higher than last year’s ranking, moving to 38th.

Defiance College recently hosted Articulation, an event organized through the Ohio Association of College Admissions Counseling (OACAC), on campus for the northwest Ohio region. The event takes place every September in alternating locations.

Defiance College continues participation in distance learning initiative

Defiance College has been approved to continue its participation for another year as part of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA). SARA is a nationwide initiative to make distance education courses more accessible to students across state lines.

Defiance College CAN help with area hunger

Students, faculty, and staff recently teamed up during a hunger-awareness event on the Defiance College campus. The event, entitled “CAN You Build It?”, collected 1,823 cans of food which were donated to the PATH Center.

The Defiance College chapter of “Free the Slaves” was awarded the Ohio Liberator of the Year award on the evening of Jan. 17 at the Ohio Liberator Awards ceremony. The award highlights and acknowledges work against human trafficking.


Annual Defiance College Empty Bowls event on Feb. 18

The 16th annual Empty Bowls event to benefit the PATH Center is planned for Thursday, Feb. 18, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 111 Elliott Road. The project is sponsored by the Defiance College Social Work Organization. The goal is to raise funds to help feed the hungry, with all proceeds going to the PATH Center.

Students represent Defiance College in intercollegiate honor band

Five members from the Defiance College bands were represented at the 28th Ohio Private Colleges Instrumental Conductors Association (OPCICA) Intercollegiate Honor Band this past weekend at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio. The performance was on Sunday at 1:30 pm at the Pritchard Laughlin Civic Center in Cambridge.


Poetry collection by Defiance College professor to be published

The latest poetry collection by Dr. Mary Catherine Harper, professor of English at Defiance College, is about to be published. Entitled Some Gods Don’t Need Saints, the collection of lyric poetry is scheduled for release by Finishing Line Press on March 18. The chapbook is a semifinalist in the 2015 New Women’s Voices Chapbook Competition.

Tax preparation advice at Defiance College Jan. 19
