President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College is consistently recognized for its leadership in community service and engagement by the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll of the Corporation for National and Community Service. DC has been honored for nine consecutive years.

The President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll recognizes institutions of higher education that support exemplary community service programs and raise the visibility of effective practices in campus community partnerships.

The Corporation for National and Community Service has administered the award since 2006 in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as the American Council on Education, Campus Compact, and the Interfaith Youth Core.

Part of Defiance College’s mission as a private, liberal arts institution is to prepare responsible citizens. This honor reinforces the value of Defiance’s model of service learning and engagement.  DC is immensely proud of its students and the outreach that they perform in communities here at home and around the world. Lives have been improved through their efforts to identify pressing needs and get involved.

Defiance College students, led by faculty and staff, perform thousands of hours of community service each year through numerous initiatives including Project 701, the college’s student-run nonprofit; Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Empty Bowls event to benefit the PATH Center, Children’s Miracle Network, youth mentoring and tutoring, to name a few. Also, the college’s McMaster School for Advancing Humanity has ongoing projects in Cambodia, Belize, and Panama.

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) is a federal agency that engages more than five million Americans in service through its Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Serve America programs, and leads President Barack Obama’s national call to service initiative, United We Serve.
