DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College moves up three spots in the 2018 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges. Defiance College is once again among the top tier of liberal arts colleges in the Regional Colleges in the Midwest category, ranking 35 out of 92. The College also ranked at 26th in Best Value Schools in the Midwest.

“Defiance College aims to offer a transformative learning experience to all students,” said President Richanne C. Mankey. “We are pleased to be ranked among the top tier schools in our region and affirmed as a college that is a good value.”

She added, “As a liberal arts based institution, we provide an excellent academic education, as well as opportunities for learning about the critical ‘soft’ skills that prepare students to navigate life beyond college – professionally and personally – with integrity and a focus on service.”

Schools in the regional liberal arts designation mainly focus on the undergraduate experience and offer a broad range of programs in the liberal arts and in fields such as business, nursing, and education. The Midwest region includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Rankings are based on a formula including several indicators of quality, such as student/faculty ratio, student selectivity, student retention, financial resources, and alumni giving. The calculation used to determine Best Value Schools takes into account academic quality, along with net cost of attendance for a student who received the average level of need-based financial aid. The higher the quality of the program and the lower the cost, the better the rank.

“Defiance College is honored to be recognized as an outstanding college in the Midwest,” remarked Agnes Caldwell, Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs. “We are very proud of our students, faculty, and staff who deserve this recognition of our academic community, and our contributions to our campus, our local community, and world.”

U.S. News & World Report publishes the rankings as a tool for prospective students and parents in their college search process. For more information, visit www.usnews.com/best-colleges.
