Defiance College Music Programs to present Concerts for a Cause

February 5, 2018

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College Music Programs will present two Concerts for a Cause on Friday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m., at the Stroede Center for the Arts, 319 Wayne Ave, Defiance, and Sunday, Feb. 18, at 12:30 p.m., at the Holgate St. John United Church of Christ, I-946 OH-108, Holgate. Admission to these concerts is free, and donations are welcomed.

At the Concerts for a Cause, ushers will collect funds for care kits for the homeless. Care kits will include water, food items, hygiene products, and other supplies. The choirs plan to distribute these care kits as they travel in New York City. The choirs accepted an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall in June, so these care kits allow the students a service opportunity.

The concerts feature the DC Chamber Singers and Choral Union. The DC Chamber Singers is a student-populated choral ensemble that performs through Northwest Ohio. The Choral Union is a community-based ensemble that enrolls students, faculty, and community members. The two ensembles present love songs and beloved folk songs. In addition, the concert features soloists and DC instructors on piano and strings, Robert Ragoonanan and Anat Kardontchik.

The choirs are under the direction of Dr. Jim Watson, Director of Music Programs, with piano accompaniment by Hannah Watson.

Admission is free, and ushers will take a free-will offering at the conclusion of each concert. Doors open a half hour ahead of each performance. Seating is general admission with first come, first served.
