Digital Forensic Science
Defiance College seeks an enthusiastic faculty member to develop, refine, and teach courses in the rapidly-growing undergraduate Digital Forensic Science (DFS) major. Responsibilities will include instruction in courses on computer fundamentals (hardware, software, networking, and operating systems), computer and small-scale digital device forensics, information security, network forensics, network intrusion detection, and the legal, ethical, and professional issues associated with the digital forensics field. Other responsibilities may include providing periodic training to local law enforcement agencies, developing select on-line/hybrid delivery courses, and participating in the development of a DFS graduate program.
Candidates must have a graduate degree, a strong affinity for student mentorship and community service, and be able to guide students through successful engagement learning opportunities in a robust hands-on curriculum. The ideal candidate would have an earned doctorate in computer, digital or cyber forensics; computer security; or a related field. Significant digital forensics work experience, teaching experience, and industry certifications (e.g., CFCE, CCE, EnCE, ACE, GCFA, DFCP, CEH, SSCP, CISSP) will improve the candidate’s competitiveness.
Marketing
This tenure track position supports the Business Administration undergraduate program and the MBA program. Responsibilities will include instruction in undergraduate business requirements of Principles of Marketing, Consumer Behavior Courses, and a variety of marketing concentration area electives including Advertising, Retail Management, Marketing Management, and Professional Selling. The individual may also teach Organizational Marketing in the MBA program. Previous experience in higher education is preferred. Ph.D. is desired (ABD considered).
Special Education/Autism Studies
Teaching duties for this position are primarily in the Master of Arts in Education program and will include teaching courses leading to mild to moderate intervention specialist license with an emphasis in autism. Responsibilities will also include field supervision and academic advising. Candidates must have collegiate-level teaching experience and an active interest in furthering and enhancing a strong program. Previous experience teaching in a K-12 environment is preferred. Doctorate or advanced ABD desired. Master’s may be considered with extensive relevant experience and intention to pursue doctorate.
This tenure track position supports the innovative Hench Autism Studies Program. This Program consists of curricular and co-curricular elements including a public school classroom on site for adolescents with autism, community education, and family support programming. A series of undergraduate courses support the program and involve students from all academic majors as peer mentors to the students in the public school classroom. Teacher Education
Responsibilities for this tenure track position include teaching in both the graduate and undergraduate teacher education programs. The successful candidate will also be responsible for field supervision and academic advising. Candidates must have a history of teaching excellence and an active interest in furthering and enhancing a strong program. Previous experience teaching in a K-12 environment is desired. Particular need for the following areas: special education; reading or other content area expertise. Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in education or related field (advanced ABD considered).
Director of Residence Life
Defiance College is a liberal arts college located in Northwest Ohio with a national reputation for its programs in service learning and civic engagement. We are seeking a Director of Residence Life to fill a position that will come open in Summer 2010. This is a full-time, 12-month, live-out position. The Director of Residence Life is the primary professional responsible for implementing a positive, student-centered living and learning environment for over 450 residential students in four separate buildings.
Duties include the supervision of two hall directors and indirect supervision of numerous students, including 18 RAs; Staff recruitment, selection, training, and development; Room assignments and room changes, including record-keeping; Communication with contract service providers in housekeeping and food service; Liaison with Physical Plant on maintenance, repairs, and capital projects; Adjudicate student disciplinary issues and serve as a conduct hearing officer; On-call coverage and crisis management and response; Advise leadership groups as appropriate; Oversight of residential community programming; Serve on campus-wide committees.
Master’s degree required, preferably in student personnel or related field. Prior residence life experience is strongly preferred, particularly prior experience as a hall director. Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, positive attitude, and a sense of humor are a must.
Start date is negotiable but prefer to have new director in place on or before July 1, 2010. Director of Student Activities

The Director of Student Activities plans, coordinates, and implements a broad range of student-centered activities, programs, and events that promote the learning and growth of students.
Duties include: Management of student activities functions, including major events such as Welcome Week, Homecoming, and Little Sibs Weekend/Family Weekend; Advise both the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and the Inter-Greek Council; Promote and support leadership development programming for student clubs and organizations; Coordinate orientation programs; Campus-wide committee service.
Master’s degree required; preferably in student personnel or related field. Prior experience in student activities programming, leadership development programming, and/or Greek Life required. Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, positive attitude, and a sense of humor are a must.

Instruction Librarian
Defiance College has an immediate opening for an entry level Instruction Librarian. The person we are seeking is student-centered with a strong service orientation. This is a non-tenure track, 12-month administrative position with faculty status and rank of Instructor.
Primary responsibilities: The Instruction Librarian provides information literacy instruction to students and assists faculty with integrating library resources and instructional technologies into their courses. Additionally, the Instruction Librarian assists library users with research and information needs and assists with the general day-to-day operations of Pilgrim Library.
The successful candidate will work closely with faculty to create course specific active learning opportunities for students to become self-sufficient in finding, evaluating, and using information for learning and research. The Instruction Librarian will coordinate the library’s involvement with the First Year Seminar program and will provide all students information literacy instruction through a three course Arts & Humanities sequence. Advanced research skills are taught in upper-level courses in the major and through occasional targeted workshops and seminars. The successful candidate will have a dynamic and engaging teaching style as the position requires extensive teaching and interaction with students and faculty.
Additionally, the Instruction Librarian will work with faculty to integrate library resources and instructional technology into their courses and will also assist students and faculty on learning and using instructional technologies.
Qualifications: An MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited library/information studies program or an equivalent degree is required. Coursework in instructional design, instructional theory, or teaching methods is desired, but not required. Instruction experience in an academic library, educational background or work experience that indicates an ability to create an engaging learning environment outside of a traditional classroom environment preferred.
The successful candidate will demonstrate most, if not all, of the following skills and abilities:
- Enthusiasm for teaching and experience with information literacy instruction;
- An outgoing, creative and entrepreneurial spirit;
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently;
- An appreciation for the liberal arts and the role of the library in higher education;
- Skills in the use of a variety of computer software used in the library;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with electronic and web-based reference resources;
- Ability to deal with and lead change in a rapidly developing library environment.

Institutional Information: Pilgrim Library is a member of the OhioLINK and OPAL library consortia and provides access to more than 47 million items, 140 research databases and thousands of electronic books and journals. The building is centrally located on the east end of the quad and serves to separate the academic buildings from the residential living complex. It therefore has a strategic location as a transition point for students between their classrooms and their living spaces. The main entry floor of the Library is currently in a multi-year project to create an integrated learning commons. Specifically, the integrated learning commons will provide a central location where students can receive help developing their written and visual communication skills as well as information literacy and research skills. In addition to traditional library services, Pilgrim Library is home to the Academic Resource Center for writing consulting and content tutoring; Computer Services, and the McMaster School for Advancing Humanity.
