ADMISSIONS GUIDELINES

INCOMING FRESHMEN

  • Achieve BOTH of the following:
    • ACT composite score 25 or higher (waived for classes of 2025 & 2026)
    • High school cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0
  •  
  • Complete and submit application for admission

 TRANSFER STUDENTS

  • Transfer cumulative GPA of 3.5/.4.0
  • Complete and submit application for admission

CURRENT STUDENTS

  • Eligibility is determined by earning a 3.5 GPA or higher during the first term at Defiance College. An invitation is sent from the Director to the student and no application is needed.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTINUED MEMBERSHIP

FRESHMAN YEAR

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0
  • Participate in the Honors section of FYE 100 College Engagement Seminar (unless waived)
  • Maintain sixty percent attendance and participation at meetings and required events over the academic year
  • Enroll in the Honors seminar in the spring semester (1 credit hour) (optional)
  • Attend the annual McMaster Symposium and Academic Colloquium

SOPHOMORE YEAR

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0
  • Maintain sixty percent attendance and participation at meetings and required events over the academic year
  • Enroll in Honors seminars fall and spring semesters (1 credit hour/semester) (optional)
  • Present at the annual McMaster Symposium and Academic Colloquium

JUNIOR YEAR

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0
  • Maintain sixty percent attendance and participation at meetings and required events over the academic year
  • Successfully complete a minimum of two Honors option courses during fall and spring semesters
  • Present at the annual McMaster Symposium and Academic Colloquium

SENIOR YEAR

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0
  • Maintain sixty percent attendance and participation at meetings and required events over the academic year
  • Successfully complete a minimum of two Honors option courses during fall and spring semesters
  • Present at the annual McMaster Symposium and Academic Colloquium
