This five-man, pop, R&B and gospel band hailing from Boston will perform on Thursday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the historic Valentine Theater, corner of Clinton and Fourth Streets, Defiance.

The Defiance College Community Band presents “Come to the Cabaret, My Friends,” on Saturday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. with guest vocalists, Defiance natives Kirsten Coffman and Mark Schnitkey. The concert, titled “Broadway, Swing, Some Hills and a Ball, Too!” will feature a variety of music including selections from Broadway, the musical theatre, and the Big Band era.

The Defiance College and City of Defiance will sponsor a year-long Town and Gown series on the War of 1812. The series titled “The War of 1812 in the Northwest, America’s Second War for Independence” will premiere on Thursday, March 18, and will host noted regional scholars.

Defiance College has announced a new program aimed at recognizing students who show great potential in their fields. The Defiance College Rising Stars program will recognize students who are nominated by Defiance College faculty for their classroom achievements, their contributions to the College’s culture of engagement, and/or their significant potential within their major field.

Each semester Defiance College recognizes students who have attained an outstanding level of academic excellence by naming them to either the Dean’s list or the school honors list.

Defiance College announced today the first in a series of initiatives to strengthen ties between the College and the community and Defiance region. Under the new Defiance College Partnership for Jobs program, the College is launching a student employment program that will fund up to 2,000 hours of community work in 2010 for qualifying Defiance College students. Students in the program will work at community-based non-profits as well as qualifying local small businesses, with the College helping to defray a portion of the students’ salary.
