Dr. Gerald Wood announced today that he will step down as President of Defiance College effective June 30.
Dr. Wood noted that his decision, based on transitions in his professional and personal life, was a difficult one. “I have been president of Defiance College for nearly six years. They have been six great years that I will always cherish and appreciate what has been accomplished. However, I am ready to take on new challenges,” he announced today to the campus.

Dr. Catharine O’Connell, vice president for academic affairs at Defiance College, will assume the position of Provost of the College on June 1.
Dr. Gerald Wood, president, made the announcement, saying, “The creation of this position will strategically align the curriculum and co-curriculum to help us achieve the goal of creating an integrated culture of engagement.” To accomplish this, the Provost will oversee the areas of academics, student life, and athletics.

Two hundred and twenty-one graduates were awarded diplomas during commencement ceremonies Sunday, May 4th at Defiance College. Journalist and author Maria Hinojosa delivered the commencement address. Graduating senior Erby Lopez was recognized with the bronze Pilgrim Medal, and faculty members Dr. Kenneth Christiansen and Professor Frank Sanders were bestowed with the rank of professor emeritus.

Defiance College Bookstore, serving the students of Defiance College, joined 280 other college bookstores across the country in the nationwide "Buy a Book, Build a Forest" campaign throughout this past school year. The goal of this campaign was to plant 100,000 trees in a national forest.

Four Defiance College students took part in the recent Young Adult Lobby Weekend in Washington, D.C., where they were given the opportunity to learn how to effectively communicate with congressional staff. The annual event is sponsored by the Friends Committee on National Legislation.

A Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree has been approved for Defiance College with classes beginning this summer.
The MBA replaces the current Master of Business and Organizational Leadership program.
The Ohio Board of Regents recently approved the 36-credit-hour MBA program which will consist of three concentrations: leadership, health care, and criminal justice.
