Schomburg Series
32nd Season Performances

Welcome to the 2007-2008 Schomburg Series
It is with great pleasure and excitement that I present the 2007-2008 Schomburg Series program to you. This year’s season is one of the most diverse formats I have put together and includes a total of six presentations. There is literally something for everyone. From African dance to American Jug Band with a taste of celtic, classical, folk, and yes, even a bit of pop/rock in the mix, this collection of perfomances will appeal to all.

It has been my pleasure through the summer to communicate with these performers and their agents to pursue and finalize the acts presented in our 31st season. Please look through the program and consider your potetial support of our series. Without such, it would be impossible to bring this caliber of performers to our campus and community.

I would like to thank Time Warner cable for their generous corporate sponsorship of this season along with Martha Jones of the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, DC whose grant went a long way in making this line-up of professional performances a reality.

It is my hope that you will consider new and continued support
of the Schomburg Series through a variety of individual and corporate packages outlined in this program ... and most of all, that you will experience the joy that these performances offer.

Sincerely,
Douglas R. Fiely
Director, Schomburg Series

With Ed horning in the band the ensemble is enhanced with his abilities on the banjo ukelele (one instrument), harmonica, and vocals. John Marlowe lends a hand with his tremendous guitar playing and vocals, and Tom Beck ties it all together with fine work on the bass and additional vocals.

Russel Martin and the Relics
Tuesday, April 8, 2008
7:00 p.m. Schomburg Auditorium

Russel and the Relics has existed in several different incarnations over the past 18 years and have managed to be both immensely entertaining and innovative. The last few years Russel and the Relics have invited audience members to participate in the performance by shaking maracas, bananas, and tambourines, banging on djembes and bongos, and figuring out how to operate that giant nut thing with the beads. This kind of misbehavior began out at Put-In-Bay during the Summer of ’02. Over the last few years, the line-up has been somewhat interchangeable
to keep the ball rolling for regular gig demands.
