Nicholas Barron is an American folk music and blues guitarist based in Chicago. Nicholas was discovered by commercial jingle house producer Manny Mendelsohn. Soon, many major commercial houses were hiring Nicholas as well. All the while, Nicholas was also performing five to seven nights a week around town playing his original music. Nicholas has opened for: Al Green, BB King, Joan Armatrading, Johnny Cash, War, Average White Band, Michael Bolton, Charlie Hunter, Medeski Martin and Wood, Karl Denson and Buddy Guy.
Nicholas will be presenting a painting workshop in the Art Department on Wednesday, September 14, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Hotlanta, a six-piece Dixieland jazz band from Atlanta, recreates the sounds of jazz as heard during the early decades of this century in New Orleans. Using clarinet, cornet, trombone, banjo, tuba and drums, they bring to life old favorites like Royal Garden Blues, South, Riverboat Shuffle, Fidgety Feet, and of course, the classic, “When the Saints Go Marchin’ In.” Palmer Wood, in Atlanta’s Highpoint Magazine calls Hotlanta “a trip to New Orleans without the hangover!”

Thousands of people have been both entertained and touched by Ms. Spielberg`s live concerts; she has toured more than any female composer/pianist in the past decade. Her natural talent for making audiences immediately comfortable transforms what could easily be an ordinary evening at the concert hall into a very special concert event. A prolific composer, Spielberg has fifteen recordings to her credit and appears on over 40 compilations around the world.
Defiance College supports the cultural life of Northwest Ohio in numerous ways – concerts by the Defiance College Community Band, musical performances including the annual Messiah concert, and plays performed by the DC Players – to name a few.
The efforts of Defiance College to encourage and support the cultural life for the citizens of Northwest Ohio continues with the 2011-2012 Schomburg Series offerings. We are proud of our partnerships and encouraged by the number of sponsors who support the diverse talent that we bring to the community.
